cockpit radio in the lav?

The other day I was in the lav when we started initial descent (CO jungle jet) and noticed i could hear the cockpit radio in the lav. Do most airlines do this? It seemed strange to me at the time....

Do you mean that you could hear the flight attendant and cabin announcements to the cabin?

Or that you could hear the ATC communications that the flight crew listens to? If so, what'd they say? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

The former is very common, although I've never experienced the latter. I can safely say that I've always avoided the lav on CO ERJs and ATRs, so I wouldn't know. There most certainly isn't any cockpit ATC radio communication in lavs on most large jets.

I'm hoping that you mean the cabin announcements, but fear otherwise. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Nope, I meant the ATC traffic. They were giving them runway information when i was in there briefly. Most of it doesn't make sense to me since I'm not a pilot, and I didn't really pay attention to what they were saying; just thought it was odd that I could hear it over the lav speaker. As far as i know, CO doesn't provide ATC chatter in the cabin via headsets...

Most likely the crew was playing the ATIS (Automatic Terminal Information Service) over the cockpit loudspeaker. This way they can stay tuned into ATC via the headsets and listen to the ATIS (weather and runway information) over the loudspeaker.

Howdy,

Just curious - could the signal have been bleeding across from the speaker the pilots directed the signal into, into the speaker for the lav?

Just curious.

Keep the faith,

Pakse

This belongs in "TravelBuzz", versus "MilesBuzz". I have reproduced it in that board.
