MCI new program and miles

For those of you residing in an eligible area, ( sadly, I don't, but thought I'd pass this on), MCI has a new program-MCI Neighborhood--you'll have to go to the MCI site to check out the terms, BUT new MCI customers get total 3000 bonus miles--2000 at sign-up, 1000 after the first month, plus 5 miles per dollar spent. With this new $49.99/month program, I see it as 250 miles per month--guaranteed. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Sometimes, people have uhhh, casually mentioned that MCI has had problems delivering on the offer.

What kind of problems have people had? I am not a fan of MCI and I wonder about this program. Is the service not delivered or the points/miles?

I'm currently doing MCI with United miles (10k in 5 mos., thank you very much!), and have had no problems with postings. Obviously, though, others have.

The main drawback I see is....having to do business with MCI!

I just go for rock-bottom local phone service through a little CLEC in our area (Birch) and pocket the $7-8 per month in savings. Unless one of the big players can pony up 750 or 1000 miles per month ongoing (that's the key - ongoing until I disconnect or airlines stop having FF programs), I'll just take the cash.

MCI is sooo bad, I wouldn't even switch if they went back to the old 25,000 mile promotion.

Last year, I signed up for their "stand alone" calling card offer. I made one or two "one minute" calls just to qualify for the 1000 miles each month. Needless to say, I had to call them again and again. I think I still came out on the short end of the stick.

Now days, I use the Sprint calling card and pay .035 cents per minute without miles. Considering how many other ways there are to earn miles, fooling around with MCI just isn't worth it.

Does anybody know the code for AA to get this bonus when signing up?

Thanks.

I have to hold back my disgust already having to pay Verizon $20/month and MCI $10/month -- just to have service, not to make any calls, mind you.

I'm not giving them any more money.
