Free Visa discount booklets

Visa is offering free travel destination guides with discounts for using the visa card (which I hate because I can't get my reward points, but the offers might be worth it).

When I called, they limited me to a maximum of three giudes. The choices are: Acapulco, Atlanta, Australia, Baltimore, Beijing, Belgium, Brazil, Calgary, Central America, Denver, Germany, Guangzhou (where?), Korea, Malta, Montreal, Ottawa, Peru, Puerto Vallarta, San Fransisco, Shanghai, South Beach, Stockholm, Thailand and Toronto.

call 1-800-847-2511.

Here's the bad part: open only to people with US issued Visa cards. (don't shoot the messinger). Perhaps US Flyertalkers who do not need all three can offer to get some for our non US participants.

David,

Thanks for the info! BTW, Guangzhou is in China I believe.

Axey Jan 28, 1999 3:07 pm

Thanks for the tip! I just called and was able to get more than 3.. 7, to be exact. Will be useful for my upcoming RTW trip.

Thanks, I also called and got some, and the lady asked how I found out about them, and I said "a friend" and got an "Oh?" surprised response. It must not have been one of her choices to check off on her computer. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

NJDavid...Guangzhao is in the People's Republic of CHina, formerly known as CANTON (for those "older" members of our FlyerTalk community.)

What city could I compare Guangzhao to? Maybe...Los Angeles? Dallas? Overbuilt, crowded, a business center. You have to go outside the city to see the real CHINA.

I was there twice. If I go back to CHINA, I would go to Shanghai first, second and third.

...just got my booklets...the San Francisco one comes with a $99 companion ticket certificate from American Airlines (must be from the other 47 states and must use Visa)

Axey Feb 4, 1999 12:04 pm

Just got mine too.. All 7 of them. They seem to be fairly useful. While I'm at it, any of you AA flyers want my $99 companion ticket to SFO? Restrictions are the same as NJDavid posted, but one important thing to note is that all travel has to be completed by May 31st. If anyone's interested, e-mail me at [email protected]

Catman's right. Shanghai first...jazz at the Peace Hotel. Guangzhou is industrial. Everyone wears masks to block out the air pollution. One sight not to miss if you go there, however, is the open air market (about 5 blocks from the White Swan Hotel). EVERYTHING for sale. Cat, dog, bear claws, dried cobra...wild place. Not for the weak of stomach.

OMNI: Baltimore and South Beach? I understand Baltimore - it's the world's largest unknown city. There was a World Fair many years ago, and the directions for getting to New York from Atlanta completely ignored Baltimore. But where's South Beach?

Rudi Feb 4, 1999 2:07 pm

Southbeach is THE INPLACE in Miami (south of Miami Beach). It is the place where my niece on this Sunday nearly forgot about the Superbowl (starting time) ...

Catman Feb 4, 1999 5:44 pm

OMNI for Guangzhao... I not only got weak of stomach from those open air markets but I almost caused an international incident when
some joker (I think it was an American) laughing because I was upset about the cats for sale for dinner said "OH common on it tastes like chicken."

SO I screamed I was a member of PETA and that with cats at home I felt like opening all the cages and letting all the animals loose (except the ratsna nd mice.) My friend Rick
took my arm and led me away -- saying the heat (92 degrees F) was getting to me.

Sorry about going off line but that place had bad memories for me. CATMAN

"Oh, but cats do taste like...

Woa, for a moment I thought I became JAWS!!

Sorry Catman. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

JAWS_II Feb 4, 1999 6:11 pm

WATCH IT, kyklin. JAWs is watching and you are plagarizing my script. Some people do eat CATS in China, don't they?

kyklin Feb 4, 1999 7:07 pm

Ever heard of shark fin soup?

JAWS_II Feb 4, 1999 7:55 pm

Ever heard of mangled "kyklins" who tried to get fins off a shark? Down here in TEXAS we might just have chicken-fried kyklins!!! If my scripts are plagarized any more I'll give you rabies.
