AA miles to Delta miles?
Hello all!
I have about 82,000 American miles that I would like to move into my Delta account. I'm just not traveling and won't be traveling as much AA routes as I previously have. My hotel points are thru Hilton if that helps. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks! |
According to the WebFlyer Mileage Calculator, your best bet is to convert 80k to Diners Club Rewards, and then convert those to DL (though you would lose half of the value in the process). The best option that does not involve DC uses Hilton HHonors, though the 80k miles would turn into 16k DL miles (and would cost you $25 on top of that).

To begin you should look at the WebFlyer conversion calculator...
http://webflyer.com/programs/mileage_converter/ ...which we give you an idea of how a conversion could be made and how much value will be lost in process. In this case you would need to establish a Diners Club Mastercard account, and will lose about 50%. Transfer 50,000 AA miles to Club Rewards in 2006, and the balance in 2007. The Diners Club annual fee is $95, but you will earn 1,000 bonus points per month for the first 12 months provided you make at least one purchase with the card in each month. |
hhmm sounds like I would be better off "gifting" them to someone and them in return for delta miles.
thanks! |

IMHO, Delta miles are worth a lot less than AA miles. I sure wouldn't pay to trade 'em, let alone lose many thousands of the AA miles. Now a trade could work ... :)

Swap Delta Miles For AA Mile
Hello,
I have a simmilar problem, but its reversed. I have about 12000 Delta miles I'd like to transfer to AA miles. I don't believe this is possible, nor I do I believe you will be able to transfer your AA to Delta. That said, would you have any interest in swapping your AA miles for my Delta? I know it does not solve the immediate problem you have, but it seems that you have extra AA miles and I have extra Delta miles, so why not swap?

The other thing to investigate is whether partner awards would work.

Keep AA. AA is more stable than DL.

I would keep those miles in AA at all costs. They are highly valuable there ^
Delta has hit the skids since their big B with bad reward availability and a new mileage expiration date of two years that many find objectionable |

For 80,000 AA miles, you'd get 160,000 Hilton points (they need to be transferred in increments of 5000) and the only cost would be the $25 transfer fee. Gail |
man i wish i could send them my delta miles and they send me their AA miles :D

I'd just keep em for now, if I were you.
I just needed to book an award flight within South America. Couldn't find an appropriate DL award, but did find an AA award. I started collecting AA miles a few years ago when I realized I needed a MC or VISA to use when I couldn't use my AMEX. So I chose an AA MC. I figured they'd come in useful eventually. Now at the time you want to actually use DL miles you might see if you could swap in the Coupon Connection. Then you might find a DL milesholder who actually wants to book an AA flight somewhere.
