Getting miles with Cable TV?

Good day! Has anyone ever heard of a cable TV, or satelite, provider that gives miles for signing up? Sure would be nice!

Randy Petersen Mar 4, 2002 3:26 pm

I thought that Delta SkyMiles was doing something with DirectTV? Anyone have more. I tossed the info since i already have it and it was for new subscribers, etc. I might have been wrong - of course they all taken those credit cards so some miles is better than none.

Has anyone gotten Time Warner to take automatic payments by credit card?

I believe Delta has had offers with Direct TV, but they did not apply to exising Direct TV customers. Look in the glossy coupons that come with your SkyMiles statement.

Sort of. It's definitely an option to have recurring payments to charged to credit card. I've been making my payments over the phone using a "manual" but single payment each time process and that has worked just fine.

dougef Mar 4, 2002 6:44 pm

Cablevision accepts one-time credit card payments as well. You can pay at their walk-in centers, at The Wiz retail stores or, I believe, on the phone.

A while ago TCI used to offer points every month whihc could be converted to miles - I received a few thousand United miles once. But they terminated the program.

I pay my Comcast cable bill each month with a mileage earning card.

usoftie Mar 4, 2002 8:05 pm

DirecTV also has auto-payment by credit card, so I pay with my miles earning VISA.

I did--no problem charging to my card my cable TV & modem service.

jwhite4 Mar 4, 2002 8:10 pm

Add Comcast (at least in PHL) to those that will automatically charge a credit card for the cable bill. Even forgetting any bonus ($$/miles) earned by the card, being able to consolidate multiple bills (am also able to do cell phone, newspaper, and some utilities) onto one more centralized bill, not having to make make separate payments (typically a check + a stamp) is reason enough to do this.

I also use Time Warners PayXpress to pay the bill by cc. Easy to sign up.

AT&T Broadband allows automatic payments with a credit card for almost all of their products (long-distance, digital phone, wireless, cable/digital cable, and high-speed internet).

Not so for the AT&T digital phone service here in dallas. They don't take credit cards.

Anybody get Southwestern Bell to accept credit card payments for telephone service?

SW Bell used to have a branded Visa Card, and they let you use it to pay your phone bill. If I remember correctly, I received a 2% kickback, er uh, I mean rebate when I used the Visa to pay my phone bill.

Very short lived program. SWB or SBC whatever it is this week got in a little hot water over the whole thing and had to discontinue the credit card and the rebate. I seem to remember some regulators had some problems with them issuing a credit card and the rebate program on using the card for the phone bill. I got the card just for the rebate and somewhere in a drawer somewhere is a Visa card with a bell logo on it. Maybe it will be worth something on Ebay one of these days.

They do have a pay by phone or pay online service but I think they only do direct-withdrawel from your checking account. I'll let Southwestern Hell get their grubby little hands on a visa card, but the thought of them accessing my checking account is way, way too frightening.

Here's the details on the Delta SkyMiles/Direct TV offer. Call 866-788-0005 to get a FREE Direct TV system and FREE installation. There's a $24.95 S&H fee and for new customers only. You'll earn a one-time bonus of 500 SkyMiles for the offer.... "have your SkyMiles membership number handy"

You can pay your SWB bill by credit card now with NO surcharge. They don't seem to be publicizing this, but the rep I just spoke with said they have been accepting CC's since last Sept. The number for payments is 800-616-1171. It is VISA/MC only though.

Oddly enough, although you can set up online billing with SWB, the only online payment option is EFT from your checking.

AT&T Broadband/Cable offers Continental Miles:

Perhaps you could earn additonal miles, if AT&T Broadband offers credit card payments with a mileage affinity card.

Anyone know of any current offers for getting miles with Cable TV in addition to the miles earned through CC payments?

Thanks.

I set up monthly autopay for Cablevision... I think it's new.

askias Aug 17, 2004 1:16 pm

You can also pay via credit card for those with Cox Cable in the Washington, DC area.

Long distance telephone providers and internet providers routinely give 10,000+ miles for their services. 500 miles is a trivial joke in comparison. I suppose if I was predisposed to sign up for DIRECTV and had a SkyMiles account, I would take the 500 bonus miles, but otherwise, I wouldn't dream of locking myself into a satellite contract with all the attendant drawbacks (i.e. poor or no reception in the rain and unbreakable long-term obligation) just for a mere 500 miles.

Same here in the West San Fernando Valley. I touch-tone in my credit card number each month to pay the bill. With having digital cable, HDTV, PVR and internet service with them, my cable bill is more than my electric and water bill.

Call 888-683-1000, go through the prompts for automated, one-time CC payments for www.adelphia.com.

Cablevision now offers credit card payments online, the system is a BIT buggy but it works a good 90% of the time ... which in Cablevision world is near perfection.... BTW The Wiz was sold off then liquidated, and then company who bought them is reopening (very slowly) in all former Wiz locations as "Electronics Expo." These new stores are very very nice .. kinda boutique type store.. very nice ... Hope someone can make money and stay in business locally...

Time Warner in Houston lets you pay by CC, as others have already mentioned. I like that it's not an automatic charge every month -- I pay it when I want. That way, it's not automatically paid even if there's a dispute on the bill (which thankfully hasn't happened in a while).

worldtraveler04 Aug 25, 2004 11:23 am

southwest airlines

I signed up for a MCI Neighborhood home phone service about a year ago SOLELY because they had a deal with Southwest where you accrued points (for miles) every 200 dollars you spent. But it ended up being a rip off -- I never ever saw those points and I flew Southwest a lot in the past year.

Same with Cox Cable in Connecticut.

Time Warner NYC www.twcnyc.com offers credit card autopay option. I've been using it for a couple years. No other bonuses that I know of.

gpapadop Sep 1, 2004 7:29 pm

Comcast?

As far as I know, Comcast does not offers this option. If anyone knows or hears otherwise, please post here.

Thank you.

I charge my Adelphia cable bill to my US Airways Visa each month by calling in or stopping by the local office...they accept V, MC, and Discover only.

It's surprising that DirecTV and Dish Network haven't had any substantial bonus mile offers out there with any of the airlines. There's so much competition in the cable and satellite biz these days (especially with so many people getting HDTV) that a miles promo would seem logical to sign up new customers.

Charter Communications in the Pasadena, CA area allows for autopay by credit card now also.
