Possible use for Paypal Billpay service?

I was on the Paypal site yesterday and noticed that they have a free billpay service (I think). Looking through the list of companies that are already set up to accept Paypal, I noticed American Express. Sounds like it may be possible to fun Paypal with one mileage credit card and pay another one with the funds. What do you think? Anyone out there try this yet?

Many credit card companies are on there, i.e., MasterCard, Visa, Discover Card, etc. But this is only if you use your checking account to pay. Using a credit card to pay for another credit card bill does not qualify. It's in the terms and conditions.

What a great concept. It may come to pass one day?

So could you use your Citibank Debit Card connected to your Checking account to do this? Citibank has a new mileage program for Checking acct. debit cards. Comments?

When Paypal debits your checking account to pay bills, it will not do so using a debit card. Funds are withdrawn directly from the bank account, not through a debit card transaction that would earn you miles with the Citibank AAdvantage Debit Card, e.g. no miles. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

The same applies to the Chase/Continental checking account and other banks' affinity relationships.

In my PayPal bill pay section, I see only Citi and Barclays of the big issuers, Amex is suggested in an earlier screen but un-addable. When attempting to pay, it simply gives amount, and pay button. I’m assuming these will charge your bank account on file with no choice of credit card on file?

Holy thread bump, Batman!

AMEX recently removed the ability to pay your credit card bill with PayPal bill pay. See the 3/22/2025 update: https://www.doctorofcredit.com/paypa...r-saved-cards/

Besides, PayPal usually charges a 3% fee for anything CC related.

can add utility/insurance/credit card to make payments to
credit card payment must be from linked bank
others can be paid from linked credit card

use cases:
1. some utility company charge fee if pay with credit card, but can add utility account number to paypal and pay bill from paypal
2. when high bonus earning categories falls in paypal, can use them pay utility/insurance
3. some card like bilt requires minium number of transactions to earn points, can pay small amount of bill for several times from paypal

I’ve used PayPal BillPay a few times, and while it can be convenient for paying certain bills, just make sure to double-check the fees involved, as they can vary depending on the payment type. It’s great for flexibility, though, especially if you need to pay a vendor that doesn’t directly accept credit cards.
