Hotel in Tokyo
 

I am going to Tokyo in a couple weeks and my hosts want to put me in a $800 per night hotel. They may pay for it, but in case they don't, I think that would be a bit high even with my expense limit. I can find quite a few Marriott, Hilton type hotels around $300 on the Internet but am not sure about their respective locations. Any suggestions for a decent hotel coveniently located at the business district????? Thanks.

I enjoy the Akasaka Prince Hotel (Westin affiliate). Be sure to join the Prince Club to get special rates, upgrades, and full American breakfast. Single about $220-250.

Depending on where you are in Tokyo, check out the Four Seasons at Chinsanzo. I get a corporate rate around 18000 yen per night (yours will vary) One of the best hotels I've ever stayed at for the price.

Last year, I stayed at the Century Hyatt. It's in the Shinjuku skyscraper area -- convenient to public transport, nightlife, etc. Paid an ABC Corporate Services preferred rate of about 24,000 yen for the club floor, which included breakfast, a big savings in Japan. (Check with your travel agent to see if they belong to this consortium.) It was quite a pleasant place.

I was in Tokyo in 1993 and stayed in the Keio Plaza (sp?) (which I think is an Intercontinental). It was very nice.

On my flight this morning from LGA to PHX on American, the Keio Plaza had an ad in American Way. You could join their "club", which is free and receive reduced room rates, discount on breakfast, bonus dollars and most importantly -- 500 miles per night (yes, night) with American, United, and a 3 other airlines whose name I cant remember. You could join the club by calling the hotel (they have offices in NY and LA) or by returning the card in the back of the magazine. The ad was in the 1/16 AW magazine (I travelled this morning and the issues had not been changed in the plane yet). If the ad is in the current issue, I will try and post the information after I fly American on Wednesday.

Without any doubt, stay at the Park Hyatt in Tokyo. It is in the Shinjuku area, on top of a skyscraper with views all over the cities. The rooms are about the largest I have ever seen in Tokyo (unlike most other hotels), the service is exquisite and the gym and pool are magnificent.

The bathrooms are great as well, with a deep tub, a toilet that incorporates a bidet and a toilet seat that lets you adjust its temperature!

The restaurant on the top floor has fantastic food and the best view of the whole city.

It is not inexpensive, but definitely worth it!

I agree wholeheartedly with DutchBoy! The Park Hyatt is fabulous! I stayed there a year ago and was overwhelmed by the sleek cutting-edge luxury and discreetly efficient service. I used United Mileage Plus 1/2 price certificates to make the stay affordable. I can't wait to go back there!
