Help, need quick vegas advice
 

help, I some quick advice.
I'm going to buy a vacation package in
the next 30 minutes for the 22 of feb to
Vegas, any advie? I'd like to stay on the strip
(mabye Ceasers?)

Never split 4's, 5's or 10's, unless you can count cards.

Other than that, you didn't give us much to go on - budget, who's going (just you or the whole family), other preferences. For my taste, the MGM is too big. My wife and I usually stay at the Rio, just off the strip - a quick cab ride to a strip casino. The rooms are all suites, the dealers are friendly, and if you're into wine, they have one of the largest wine collections in the country.

As far as the casinos go, blackjack tables are green in almost every casino and everyone has the same rules, so I don't care where I play (except I won't go to the Imperial Palace - I've never seen a dealer smile in there). Anyone know of a strip casino that offers surrender on blackjack?

The Venetian is a very nice property, Bellagio too (I prefer the rooms in the Venetian). As mentioned you didn't provide any details (and a difference between a family hols or a lads one is quite significant)..

Check out the Vegas area on FT Travel. THere has been an ongoingthread on deals for months now.

There are many great websites, but I enjoyed cheapovegas.com. I was there Christmas week. Don't have any gambling advice, but my advice is don't wear steel toed boots to the airport.

Wife and I enjoy Harrah's. Good location, mid-strip, with good service, good food (coffee shop is pretty good if you don't want anything fancy) and a nice race/sports book. Not the biggest in town, but nice.

All the properties listed above are great and there are always deals, well except on weekends. I like the Mandalay Bay, its got great bars, restaurants and yes the felt is green there too.

suggestion, stay at a place with-in walking distance to the other hotels cabs are a pain and you anybody can stumble and crawl for 1/2 a mile...

Hi there Thumper! Don't know why I didn't think to go to the Vegas area. I recently checked NYC. Glad you reminded us of this option.

Although I dislike MGM, if you go there and you're a slots/video poker player, get a Director's Card. MGM gives you one AA mile for every two Director's points.

I like the MGM, and the free suite upgrades with AAdvantage Platinum are nice.

Here's my advice - don't take anyone's advice. 99% of gamblers are supersticious and don't understand the odds (as tmorse6570 said, sitting 3rd base at a blackjack table can get you lynched if you make the "wrong" move and "mess up" the cards for everyone else).

Also, I like to stay on the strip between MGM/NYNY and Ceasars, becuase it puts you within walking distance of most casinos.

On the other hand, if you sit at the other end (first to get a card), you'll be holding everyone up with your slow decision making, and you might get lynched. You should find a seat precisely in the middle.

Seriously, wherever you stay, the most important thing to do is get a slot club card and use it. Slot clubs are the frequent flyer programs of gambling. The more you gamble, the more points you accrue, and the more free stuff you get. And at some casinos, the slot club members can accrue points at table games as well as slot machines.

I go tan extention on the deadline since I've gone and purchased the plane tickets...

I would agree with checking out cheapovegas.com . It has links to most of the hotels own websites where you can check for deals. The LA Times Sunday travel section online also lists specials.

For only two nights stay where it's most convenient as that is not alot of time - week-ends are still selling out so discounts will not be much.

We usually stay at the Rio - the wine cellar also has scotch tastings!!
