Upgrade Certificates and Tax Deductions
Every year I have some consulting income, and I know that I am allowed to write off business travel on Schedule C of the tax forms (assuming of course, I paid for the travel myself). Is the same true for upgrade certificates? This year most of my coach tickets were paid for, but I purchased the upgrade myself.
Any advise would be appreciated. |
Aaron, I would be surprised if you received an answer other than "See your CPA". Tax advice is risky, you know.

Here's the answer: see your CPA.
And personally even though you have made a quazi Travel related question I think this gets into Tax Laws which is beyond some of us like myself and more work for the lawyers among us, who may have different views. WOW!!! JAWS & THE GREAT, HANDSOME AND BELOVED CAT AGREE ON SOMETHING!!! Can't resist this OMNI: My friend Frank who is also my accountant and I always make sure to go out for lunch/dinner and drinks before taxes due (when I give the forms) and afterwards (when he gives me the bad news.) I tend to do the AFTER a few days before the end of tax season so we both can cry in our beer -- me from the tax bill and him from exaustion!!! I think you have that backwards Catman. It should be the CAT and that GREAT, BELOVED, HANDSOME AND FEARLESS JAWs.
