Your request is way out of line. In fact, getting anything is a good deal. You did get there afterall.

Wow - most flyers on this board have had much longer than 3 hour delays and gotten nothing. Gee whiz.

Two friends of mine (separate incidents) have had pots of hot coffee poured on them by FAs. In the first case (UA international flight), $2000 cash compensation was offered and accepted -- I think she could have gotten quite a bit more, considering she still has scars to this day. On the bright side, she did get to sleep in the crew rest with special PJs for the rest of the flight. The second incident (no lasting scars) occurred on a DL LAX-SLC flight and my friend received 4 domestic RT first class tickets plus a small amount of cash.

Even if they were rude, those gate agents must have been doing something right to have the flight boarded and the door closed 20 minutes before scheduled departure ... Off topic: On a flight last year from Bogota, the flight departed 45 minutes ahead of schedule, due to fog forecast at destination...don't know whether anybody was left behind.

Wow. It is beneficial for us to read what the airlines have to deal with every day.

Sticking with your tangent, UA 806 seems to close early in HKG a large percentage of the time.

Because one of the reasons that it is so darn difficult to get stuff done nowadays is because of folks asking for too much. In life, in customer service, and yes, in court. The more people ask for unreasonable "compensation," the more difficult true cases of mistreatment will be to have acknowledged by the company in question.

Asking to be comped AA PLT and two first class tix is outrageous for a situation where the passenger did not suffer any real damage. He got to his destination, hungry and angry, but really only a short while later than he should have if not for the delay.

That said, rudeness by company employees is never called-for or a good thing, but I've found that you pretty much get back what you give - if you were flowery and overly pleasant to them, they would have no choice but to be pleasant right back to you!

But, they still wouldn't give you the answer you were looking for...

In sum - dude, if you got comped PLT and two first class tickets because you missed a flight, I'd be angry at AA, not you. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

FYI-> they close the door 10 to 20 minutes prior so the pilots and flight crew can finish weight and balance and still push back on time.....

Well said Plato90s, I agree TWA's offer was reasonable.

mdtony Feb 6, 2002 6:59 pm

So let me get this right. You V-O-L-U-N-T-A-R-I-L-Y left to make a phone call. And you are complaining because that resulted in you missing the plane?

Give me a break, dude. If the airline screwed up, that'd be one thing. But they didn't. You did. Stop trying to pin the blame on them.

Now, as for this alleged rudeness, I'm sure that you probably got a little vocal and loud, didn't you? Maybe even screamed and cursed at the gate agent?

Why do I say this? Because the compensation you're asking for is just plain ludicrous.

Djlawman Feb 6, 2002 8:21 pm

Geez, I hate to beat a dead horse, but sometimes it can be ... well ... fun! You have to be crazy to think this is reasonable compensation. Say that you value the FC tickets at $10,000, how does your time become worth $5000 or $3333 an hour? Did you miss an important business meeting? Lose out on a contract that you would have earned thousands of dollars in commissions on? No, you got to your friend's place a few hours later. You blew it by being ridiculous. It would serve you right if you get nothing now (and, since TWA is now out of business, that seems the likely prospect).

This is an excellent point.

Basically, what you are saying to TWA is "I am an unreasonable passenger and nothing you do will satisfy me." You might as well have asked for world peace.

If I were TWA, I would have again offered you the original compensation. If you refused, I would have withdrawn the offer and considered the matter closed.

Your best bet is to drop the issue becuase you will be wasting your time. I would be extremely surprised if AA gave you anything, particularly if your demands are documented.

Oh come on Nate... how many times have you ever been on a flight (domestic) that left more than 10 minutes early? I've never had it happen.

Me neither, and in cases where they could finish boarding 20 minutes before scheduled departure if they started boarding on time, almost invariably they just delay boarding 10 more minutes ...

New York area.... is this Sergio???

I think you could get two First class RTW tickets on Infinite Airways plus caviar buffet at any Hilton.

Get real.
