I remember reading somewhere that AA requires at least 2-hour notice for a same-day mileage upgrade, even for EXP members.

I know that recently on my CLT_LGW leg when I had left the transatlantic upgrade certs on my desk at home (*gasp*), the agent first asked if I would like to upgrade w/ miles - until he noticed I was booked in K class, which couldn't be upgraded w/ miles.. so I think you can, but it's risky... if you're prepared to do that, why not go ahead and do it now? Hoping for an operational upgrade? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif</font>

Fortunately, now you can upgrade that K class ticket with miles. Excellent change for Dividend miles.

Hey guys, Swissair (and it's successor) are probably the best on this one:

UG anytime in advance (based on availibility) with miles

UG at Check-In or up to 30 min prior at gate using miles w/o fee

If you're TCQM (elite) also from paid C to F anytime up to 30 min prior.

And: If you're TCQM also ONBOARD EVEN WITH FREE TICKET !!! Allows double upgrades as well!

Wow... I'm so happy I am a 1P with United... it sounds like it's hard to u/g with other airlines. Most of the ug's w/ United are all electronic and don't charge *any* fees whatsoever (unless you need to buy more certs)....

I am surprised some of these airlines still want to issue paper certs for some of these segments!

When using miles for United, you just call it in, if it can be confirmed, *ZAP*, they're out of your account.
