Icelandair ?

I live in MSP, and am/have been a NW guy. I've flown on Icelandair before to the UK, and it has many positives. I decided to switch my UK travel from NW to Icelandair for various reasons. I called the US office of Icelandair and talked to a CSR. I querried regarding a comp to Saga Silver or Saga Gold (40,000/70,000 miles per year). I am NW Gold (despite excellent last minute help on this board to get me to SIN and Plat, a rather nasty illness put that plan (and me) to rest). I had hoped for a comp to Saga Silver, but no dice. I was told Icelandair is just too small to comp, but they would "really love" my business. Well, jeez, work with me people.

My questions:

1. Has anyone ever been comped to an elite level on Icelandair?

2. Does anyone out there fly Icelandair? Any insights or comments to share?

As an aside, I had to chuckle when as I was explaining I had generally flown NW transatlantic the last few years, the lovely accented CSR commented "oh, they HATE us!".

Thank you Eugene, I had not found one of these threads when I searched. I think I just searched trip reports - not very complete on my part!

I really like Icelandair. I find the seats really comfy and the service & meals really good. I have never had a bad flight with them.

I've flown Icelandair and I like them, but I would have a hard time giving up Elite status on Northwest to do that. The last time I looked, miles still EXPIRE in the Icelandair program and there are simply not enough options/destinations to compare against the flexibility and benefits of the Northwest WorldPerks program. That said, everyone's travel profile is different and if Icelandair fits yours, then who is to say that isn't the correct move for you? They certainly get high marks for regularly rolling out bargain fares!

Try em out real cheap, $299 for two people including two night hotel in Iceland!

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum...ML/003650.html

The first catch is that you would have to get to BWI.

The second is that you would have to get married...

A notion my wife and I share is to spend a long weekend in Iceland hiking and nightclubbing. Can anyone share a similar experience? Thanks.

Saturday night is party night in Reykjavik! For packages and info, go to:

and check out some of the possibilities. Here are some brief travel notes I've made that you can link to:

Remember that most fares on Icelandair between the U.S. and Europe allow for a stop-over at KEF!
