AMEX or Delta double miles?
 

i have a fidelity amex card that i use for almost everything. i saw an ad for delta skymiles that says "always double miles, plus 15k bonus miles."

if i dont care which airline i get the miles for (i'm quite happy with delta), and i charge $15,000/yr easy, then isnt two better than one? (excluding conversations about the yearly fee (comparable) and credit/debit)

if im going ot use one card all the time, is there a better deal out there than DOUBLE miles?

I have the Delta Amex card, but I rarely get the 2-for-1 miles. You have to read the fine print on the offer, which indicates that the 2-fors are only available at free-standing supermarkets, home improvement centers, and a few other places. I rarely get a 25% bonus tacked onto my 1-for-1 miles. The good news is that Amex will ocassionally have periods of 1.5 months where ALL purchases qualify for the 2-for-1. And, between January 15th and February 28th, Amex is giving TRIPLE miles! All this to say, you will get between 1 mile and 3 miles for every dollar spent.

If memory serves - I dropped that card a few years back when I moved most of my flying from DL to AA - you also get extra miles when buying Delta tickets. If you do a lot of that, a DL card could be nice to have. Just be sure to pay your bill on time - if you don't, the finance charges (that you wouldn't get on DC or a "real" AmEx) will more than offset the value of the extra miles.

Get the Delta AmEx and use it exclusively for Groceries, Fuel, Drug Stores, Home Improvement Stores and Delta Tickets. This will get you double miles on all purchases. At signup you will get enough miles to justify the annual fee for the card.

Get a Starwood AmEx card and use it for everything else. It's free the first year and $30 per year thereafter. If your aim is primarily to gather frequent flyer points, than this program has the unique feature of converting 20,000 starwood points to 25,000 frequent flyer miles on most airlines including Delta. Of course if like me, you also like free hotel stays, then you could accumulate one Starpoint for every dollard spent and use them for award stays at Starwood Hotels.

I have the AMEX DL card and enjoy the 10,000 bonus points for charging $25k annually. I just got my 10k bonus, 4 months early, which was a nice surprise. The 10k is supposed to come 6-8 after your annual renewal. Not this time http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

where is this triple mile promo? all i can find is triple for puchases at delta and on amex vacations. not all purchases?

No argument from much of waht was said above. What I do not understand is how AMEX can continue to advertise ALWAYS double miles. The all caps ALWAYS comes from every other sentence in all their literature and online ads. Talk about misleading ads.

I just purchased a Delta ticket for my husband using my Skymiles card. I had registered with my Skymiles #. I wonder if I'll still get the triple miles.

If you travel a lot, AMEX has Gold Reward Plus card. It gives double miles on airlines, hotels and rental car expense. It costs $150.00 a year but you can have up to 5 additional cards without extra charge.

I do the same as Clanson: use my Delta AmEx only on purchases to get double or triple miles (making sure I spend at least $25,000 to get the yearly bonuses).

Then I charge everything else to the Marriott Visa. Since we run the household and the business on these 2 cards the award accounts build quickly.

I am considering changing to a card that earns AA miles in pursuit of lifetime elite.
