Crossing paths in airports
I think this is a little bit of an OMNI posting. Sorry, Catman.
I've been doing a lot of waiting around in Red Carpet Clubs lately (6 hours at Narita last week) and started wondering how many times our Flyertalk members actually cross paths in aiports. Okay, so I had A LOT of time of my hands. |
I'm positive that one of us has literally walked past another in an airport but not knowing each other by face or being focused on walking to our gate, we simply pass without knowledge.
|
We should ask our hosts at Flyertalk to assist.
Randy had mentioned T-shirts in an earlier thread. Perhaps, instead of T-shirts, luggage tags would be a nice, inexpensive perk of the Flyertalk board. We could attach a "flyertalk" tag to our carry-on, purse or briefcase (next to the FF elite tag, of course) and use it as a means to identify fellow Flyertalk members for impromptu airport mustard pretzel festivals. Any thoughts? Dave |
PlanetAll has a "tracking" feature where you can input your travel plans (general -- like cities) and it will match with those people in your contact list.
It would be really interesting to see how many of us cross paths... |
we could always just set up a thread mentioning what flights we will be on during the following week, then other members who are in the same airport/airplane that day could reply with a suggestion of a meeting.
i'll start: jan30 - continental airlines from new orleans to phoenix (7:30a-11:34a) jan30 - america west from phx to las vegas (10:15p-10:17p) i'll buy the first round http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif |

Rudi, What the heck is a NEUE ZüRCHER ZEITUNG ? I hope it is not X-Rated! |

We're easily recognizable, as we speak a mixture of English, Spanish and German. Looking at the above, I wouldn't be surprised that most sane people would want to avoid us. Of course, that group wouldn't include the FlyerTalk crowd. |

The CAT POLICE rule your posting NON-OMNI Tropical Flyer. There is a travel element
(and CMDR CATCOP likes the fact that we are trying to come together and meet each other!) NEUE ZüRCHER ZEITUNG is Switzerland's "New YOrk Times" or "Chicago Tribune" or "Washington Post" or "L-A times" or other fine Newspaper. Rudi used this to help me identify him the first time we held our first OMNI committee meeting last August at the Pierre Hotel. It was one of the best breakfasts I've had. I concur that FT/WF luggage tags would be a great way for us to spot each other. At least in my case you can spot me by the cat hair on my carry on, jacket, jeans, etc. NO immediate travel plans but there's New Orleans 4-01 to 4-04 for Holly's birthday celebration, climaxing with dinner at Delmonicos Orleans and after dinner drinks at Pat O'Briens. It should be an interesting trip. CATMAN [This message has been edited by Catman (edited 01-20-99).] |
Luggage tags would be cool. I personally have a soft spot for enamel/cloisonne pins and/or
t-shirts, mostly because most of my travel is for conferences or other geeky events. But hey, I'm not one to turn down any sort of free trinket... JD |
Catman ~ Unfortunately, since that's Easter weekend, I'm going to be out of town, but maybe you'd like to cat sit for my girlfriend and I *grin* ... that way you won't suffer from cat withdrawl like I'm sure you must do on most other trips ...
