Roundtrip AF Concorde $4000!!!!!
 

It recently occurred to me....

DL offers a rountrip Concorde award for 160,000 miles. Those whp participate in AMEX Membership rewards can buy 20,000 miles for $500 each month. Spend $4000, get 160,000 miles transferred to DL, and you've got yourself a Concorde ticket.

Yes, it's expensive. But it's a lot less that spending $10,000 rountrip!

This is the magic of miles in some cases.

For instance, you can travel in the USA IAD-SFO for as little as, say, $350 or $450 on UA. But an unrestricted Y ticket can cost $2200 or so.

Yet you can pay the equivalent of $400 or $500 in the form of 25,000 miles, and get the equivalent of a Y ticket. There are some restrictions for the "saver award", but essentially you can travel on a moment's notice and not have to stay over a Saturday night and change your dates.

Int'l business class upgrades illustrate it too. A C ticket can cost $5000 or so trans atlantic, or you can pay the equivalent of far less in the form of miles for an upgrade.

In some cases miles are worth a lot of cash.

I think that's basically why some mileage programs which allow you to directly purchase miles limit how many miles you can buy and credit to a given FFP account each year. Otherwise, nobody would pay for super-expensive full fare coach tickets, they'd buy enough miles for a non-saver award ticket (no blackouts or capacity-control limitations). Yes, there are other ways to acquire lots and lots of miles, but they require more effort, whereas simply buying the miles directly from the airline is so straightforward that they couldn't allow this loophole to stand.

There are certain TA's out there that can get you on the Concorde for the price of a C ticket on AF (especially connecting to LHR).

Great tip.... Im also one that wants to fly Concorde sometime soon, so this is a nice way to do this. I wonder how restricted DL mileage seats are on the Concorde, though.

I used BA to fly on the SST 3 yrs. ago. I think it is 95M with coach return or 115M business return. The SST is a great flight, do not think twice, just do it! I have 500M BA miles (from BA credit cards and DC card) and will do it again in 2002.
