AS flight 2 going in circles....

My wife and child are on AS flight 2 right now. If you track the flight, you'll see it making a U-turn over Montana and heading back to SEA. My wife called me from the plane; it seems like one of the engines is vibrating pretty badly...

You can track it at:

Yikes.

Hope all is well.

svpii Nov 26, 2001 3:44 pm

Ooh- please keep us posted - looks like it's about half an hour out..

eastwest Nov 26, 2001 3:49 pm

I hope that things go well. I assume that they are under control, otherwise the plane would be diverting to the nearest airport instead of trying to make it all the way back to SEA.

God speed.

PremEx Nov 26, 2001 4:03 pm

Hang in there baby! I'm sure they'll arrive safe and sound.

lalala Nov 26, 2001 4:07 pm

Ditto on the good thoughts.

AS lists the flight as being delayed into IAD until 12:35 am, so they must think that the flight may be okay to go out again.

We'll keep checking and thinking of you.

Hang in there, David.

taucher Nov 26, 2001 4:39 pm

Fingers firmly crossed!

Should be landing in 5 min or so.

Shinkansen Nov 26, 2001 4:45 pm

Just a minute or so til they are back. I'm thinking good thoughts for them.

Eugene Nov 26, 2001 4:52 pm

Keeping my fingers crossed for your family and the rest of the passengers and crew.

Status: Landed http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

MileageAddict Nov 26, 2001 4:55 pm

Plane landed. Aww, you guys were more worried than I was. I feel sorry for my wife and son since they wont get into IAD until well after midnight. Groan.....

I don't mean to sound opportunistic but does she have validity in complaining for some sort of compensastion. And if so, what do you think is reasonable?

Yeah!

DP saw them coming over lake washington from
office window. Said it looked good for a normal landing....

Now, mileage addict's wife and child will have a trip report for us.

Here's relief and happiness for Mileage Addict and his family reunion.

Funny thing is....I leave tomorrow and am driving from Washington to Virginia. With their flight delay problems, maybe I'll get there before they do!

I was absolutely glued to that view finder.. great news. No, they'll get there first, be jet lagged, grumpy, and when you get there it will be all your fault. It amazes me how long it takes some guys to figure out that it's ALWAYS your fault http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Oh, it's not that bad. Let's see, you're going to live in Virginia? They won't be too far away, it's only around 30 minutes from my house to IAD and I live across the river.

As for compensation, I am sure that some will be offered to them. I would wait and see what Alaska does and then if that's not enough, ask for more.

Here's the update via the miracle of cellular phones:

Mrs. MileageAddict said plane landed hard and at a crooked angle. I took that to mean the 737-700 landed with one engine. The captain initially told passengers over the PA not to be alarmed if there were fire trucks along the runway when landing. As they got closer to SEA, he informed them there would not be a parade of flashing lights and sirens awaiting them. Both Mrs. MileageAddict and JuniorAddict received vouchers redeemable for 1000 miles as an apology. Since neither of them have an AS account (they are accumulating miles on AS partner NW), I'll get my hot little hands on those vouchers for my AS account! So....I'm earning miles while cleaning out the refrigerator at home!

Replacement plane was waiting for the passengers and is already boarding.

Hurray for them, Huray for you, Hurray for the Captain, Hurray for AS! I am so glad they are safe. I didn't see this until after it was over, but it must have been a tough wait. Glad it is over.

Brother... I am riding AS2 with two colleagues this Thursday 11/29... I'll hope for better luck. But am glad your family is safe and sound, MileageAddict.

Wow. A relief after a scary day. I'm sure I speak for many FlyerTalkers when I say I share your happiness that all ended well.
