Mile tracking software for Palm III/V/VII
 

Anyone else out there using Airmiles software for the Palm OS. I love it becuase it has made keeping track of my miles sooo much easier.

I do not work for the company and get no compensation for this testimonial, I just love the software. I Have been using it for about 6 months and wow what a difference.

I do only limited air travel, but rent many cars, use only mile earning charge/credit cards and participate in many promotions with phone and others. I used to never really remember all the things I did that had miles associated with them. I just kind of hoped that they were all posting.

Now with Airmiles on my Palm III, when I take a flight, rent a car, get a credit card statement, phone bill, particpate in a survey, participate in a bonus program, or other I just enter the info into the program. It works kind of like Quicken in that you enter the info, and when it posts you mark it as cleared. You can easily see at a glace those items that have yet to post and how long ago they were done.

It provides detailed summary pages including the "age" of miles and their expiration year (if applicable).

I really can not do justice to the program and all of its features. Instead, I would encourge you to check out the demo version. It is fully functional, but after 14 days use you will have to wait 15 seconds each time you load the program before you can use it.

I prefer to use Quicksheet v 3.0 on my Palm III. It is a kind of MS-Excel-datasheet. And the program (as Excel) is open for any kind of data-sheets.

Just checked out Airmiles. But $30 is pretty excessive--its simply not worth that much--for it to be worth that, it would have to save me 6,000 miles over what a free solution will save me--and that just isn't the case. I'm going to try Rudi's solution, and I'll get back to y'all.

In the meantime, this thread was from a long time ago--any new PalmOS mileagetracking software come available?

I use traveltracker to manage my itineraries. I can then sync the flight schedules to my outlook calendar.

The program can track miles, but I find it awkward to reconcile my mileage. Overall, I am very happy with the program's other aspects.

TravelTracker also has a PC program that you can utilize, but I haven't purchased that part of the program....

I use traveltracker as well and have the TravelTrackerPC component which allows entering/viewing itineraries (flight, car, hotel, etc..) from my laptop. TT will also copy the events into the datebook which is handy, since all of that is tied into my MS Outlook.

I haven't tried playing with the mileage tracking part recently.

I guess I use the really simple approach....

I have a category on my to-do list called FFMiles. Whenever I make any transaction that earns miles or points (flights, hotel stays, car rentals, dining), I make a quick entry there stating what/when/how many. I use a two-letter code at the beginning of each entry to designate the airline or hotel program.

When my statements come in (or when I check my balances online), I can easily check off the entries for which I have received points/miles, and easily see the ones that are missing.

Man, I cannot tell you how glad I am this thread was brought forward. I missed it the first time! What a delight to learn of this software. I have downloaded the Airmiles and I like it pretty well. I have also downloaded Travel Tracker but still need to input all the data. That alone takes plenty of time.

I have looked at a couple of tracking programs, but I like the old fashioned method of keeping files for each ff account. I keep copies of all activities, email confirmations, etc. in their respective files in case documentation is needed in the event miles fail to post (this never happens, right?).

OK, I have tried both Airmiles and Travel Tracker. I find them both very different. May be it is just me, but the first one works mainly for miles while the second is more of a "calendar" of trips. There is some similarities but I am not sure if I want to pay $30 each for BOTH of them.

I will have to admit though, it has been fun entering data and seeing what they do!

I've been using AirMiles for a while and find it very useful, but it does seem a bit expensive for a Palm program. Anyone know of any other shareware/freeware that does the same kinds of things?

Also, one of the drawbacks to the AirMiles program is that, while it tracks things like base miles vs. bonus miles and number of segments for flights, it does not track nights/stay information for hotels. It also does not have an elegant way to track special promotions like double base miles.

I've thought about doing this for a while now because there are features absent from the
current apps out there that I'd like to see as well and I do enjoy developing handheld-based apps.

The problem is that these sorts of things can take a LOT of time to do properly, mostly in terms of translating human program rules and lawyer-ese into code.

My question to those who think that the $30 for AirMiles is too much would be:
How much WOULD you pay? $5? $10? $20?
What features would you like to see?
How important would things like reconciliation with your online account(s) or bonus/specials notification be?
Would these make it worth $30?

Would you be willing to pay for (some of) this on a subscription basis?

I've been doing Palm development for a couple years now and have toyed with doing this on the side from time to time.
I'd be willing to really throw in on it and mold something close to FT'ers desires if I thought I could eat off it in some part.
