Yay for Dream Maps extension!

I just noticed this today -- Dream Maps has been extended to cover Asia and South Pacific destinations (at least with a US origin). Is this something relatively recent or am I just blind? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif Either way, just wanted to say "Thanks!" to Yahoo!/Travelocity.

They must have just updated their website. I was on Dream Maps yesterday and it was still the same old system. It is good to see the added functionality, not sure what took so long to add it. However, it is still a bit buggy. Selecting new areas, once a search has been started, reloads at a default fare amount, not like the old system. I still don't understand why they have the search parameters for cities, national parks, etc. Totally useless. They ought to have it so you could select first class, business, etc. Or even particular airlines. Maybe Jimbob had some influence on this.

Just found it too!

This is great and will save me alot of time. In the past I was checking city pairs from the home page one-by-one...almost everyday http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif looking for great fares to Asia and the Pacific. Awsome addition!

Thanks Travelocity!!!!

Great news and this also works from Europe. Now we are just waiting for Africa http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Yes, this is fantastic. Now if we could only set it to look for even lower prices. Lowest threshold is $800 in the search. Hey, that is coincidence with my # of posts!

Great news! I love the Dream Maps and how they work.

Thanks for the heads up.

It is a great improvement, except in checking about 8 cities in asia for travel on AA, the lowest prices quoted are NEVER available on ANY days. Not sure if this is an AA problem, or a travelocity problem, or....

I believe this is an AA problem and the fares they post. I have noticed the same thing. It is virtually impossible to get from a cheap Dream Map fare, pull up the list of airlines, choose AA, then actually get to a reservable fare. Funny, since this is Sabre based. You might be better off going to AA.com to check availability at that price.

Check out FareBrowser. It doesn't give you a map but it does let you set any RT threshold price you want. It also gives you many other options for filtering the flight search, e.g. by carrier (or alliance); advance purchase time; min/max return time; etc.

FareBrowser looks nice, not of too much use to me since my city is only a destination, not an origin (LAS) http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

From the Updates section of FareBrowser:

10/24/01 - Airport changes (something of these changes may take a couple of days to be visible): Las Vegas (LAS) as an origin, Singapore (SIN) as a destination, Detroit-City (DET) removed as an origin and destination.

It appears as tough the SIN and DET changes took place but LAS is still missing as an origin. You might try Emailing mailto:[email protected][email protected] to ask what happened to the LAS origin info.
