Immigration at EWR

Is it me, or is immigration at EWR the only place on the planet that has lines longer for citizens and residents than non-citizens?

It's not just you.

It was certainly true Saturday evening at ORD. The lines for citizens were each perhaps 40 people long; the lines for non-citizens were tiny.

EWR is usually as it was this past Sunday at 4PM. The lines for Citizens and Permanent Residents was huge, but moving quickly. The line for non-citizens was huge plus and not moving very well.
At least they had the Saints v Rams up on TVs right in the middle of the bullpens.

I was thinking the same thing when I went thru yesterday. My other thought was that the passport control was lomg than any other contry I've visited....

INSpass is up and running @ EWR-- quick as hell and even a little fun to use-- get through imigration in about 3 minutes or less.

hmm.. very interesting.. but it usually takes each of you 30 seconds to go through immigration, while non-citizens usually take at least 2-3 mins...

As a US Citizen, you're allowed to use any line at US immigration. They've marked some lines as "US Citizen" only to speed things up, and offer preference to US citizens.

I was on an LHR/ORD flight last year that had a large number of US citizens on it. the INS agents at ORD kept walking back and forth shouting "US Citizens can use any line".

This is true. Going through SJC for the first time, I wasn't paying attention and ended up in the foreign citizen line instead of the US citizen/resident line. After I got to the agent, he was surprised, but processed me anyways.
