Opinions of Travelocity

I have seen a lot of ads flashing for Travelocity and even got logged on them when I went on Prolaunch to get my daily credit of 40 points (I almost have enough for a gift
certificate to TARGET -- sorry Mr. WalMart Jaws.)

Curious to know any opinions/views of this travel service. A friend of mine is looking into booking with them and I don't want to steer her wrong so I said I will check with my best friends at FlyerTalk. CATMAN

Until last week I had excellent service from Travelocity. They have even started charging in Canadian dollars for us Canadians (instead of having to pay the extra costs when doing exchange to U.S.). The tickets always showed up by courier the next business day (until last week). I presume it had something to do with the awful snow in the east but Travelocity's tickets haven't showed up yet (5 days later) even though my Expedia tickets booked at about the same time came through OK. I regularly book using several online services (EasySabre, Expedia and Travelocity, as well as the airlines sites). I actually prefer EasySabre (same company as Travelocity) because it is the most powerful of the lot--you get to choose exactly which segments you want on multi segment trips and you can see what fare classes are available while you are doing each one. The only problem is that its interface is a little unfriendly looking (but still very easy to use). None of these regularly gives out miles for booking though (unlike some of the airline sites). http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/redface.gif

I like using Travelocity to check fares and fare rules only. I then use Internet Travel Network in Advanced mode to find what flights have the fare base available and check how many seats are assigned in first to see what my chances of upgrading are. I then book my ticket on EasySabre because, with the use of shortcuts, it is faster than Travelocity. I can then send the booking to a travel agency that uses SABRE and rebates some of their commission. Also, these online reservation systems only work with 8 segments or less. If you book a ticket with more than 8 segments you need to use a travel agent or call the airline directly.
