Revised security? Nail clippers now OK?

The NY Times had an article this weekend stating that nail clippers, tweezers, and razors were now acceptable items in carry-ons. have any of you flying in the past few days seen this to be true?

To be honest with you, as long as Argen"un"bright is staffing the security areas, I think that you'll pretty much be able to get away with anything you want.

I forgot that I had a pocketknife with my keys in my briefcase the last time I flew. Well, I got through without anyone asking me. It wasn't until I opened up my briefcase on the plane that I realized I had screwed up.

At LGW, nailclippers that did not have a blade-like nail file attached were allowed. If your nailclipper had the attached metal nail file, you had the option of surrendering the whole clipper or allowing them to break off the nail file portion.

Saw security break off a file from nail clippers at LGA on Sunday(10/21).

I saw the same thing at DFW on Tuesday; clipper good, file bad

A week or two ago, the FAA posted new regs at www.faa.gov. It took many of the aiports a few days to get up to speed. Though I made a number of flights before they spotted my nailclippers or corkscrew.

The people working the gates are not the ones to blame. They can only do so much with't the limited staff and time available. If they were to stop and search everyone to attain the levels of security that some might want, then the lines would not be an hour or two, but would be measured in days. I have taken nail clippers, corkscrews and scissors through many international gateways, so don't think they catch everything. None of these crazy measures really mean anything. Just like the idea that you can not park on the street near large buildings. I was in downtown Little Rock, AR today and the meters are blocked off, supposedly to keep car bombs away. Of course, you could just pull the car up and pull the switch and kaboom. So silly.

IAD let my eyeglass screwdriver pass but Seattle confiscated it. It's still a case of inconsistency.

Talk about inconsistency. When I checked in at Air France at LAX a week ago today, the agent wasn't going to let me through until I had checked my electric razor. Normally it wouldn't have been so bad, but this time I travelled light (just one carry-on) so she had to find me a box for the extremely dangerous razor.

Needless to say:
1) Security confirmed it is OK, but then it was too late to get it back,
2) It didn't make the connection at CDG.
3) When it finally arrived it was broken.

Just wonder if AF will pay for the repair?

I have heard lots of stories about beefed up security on flights INTO the US. I would guess folks are reacting to the insanity of demands from the FAA to keep their airport certified.

And guess what? A DIFFERENT agency runs security over there, so all the slam and blame against our rent a cops might be misplaced.

Ah, but this was at LAX, going to CDG!

Security abroad has been much stricter for the American carriers than what it was in the US, even though it became easier and easier over the years. There was a time when you had 5 security checks at ARN before boarding a PANAM flight back to the US! On 9/1 (the last time I flew DL over there) it was only 3. I don't know what it is today, since DL doesn't fly there anymore.

I had my cuticle cutters confiscated in FLL when they searched my bag, but my disposable razor was fine. And, they said if my cuticle cutters had been nail clippers, they woulda let me keep 'em...so it looks like the rules have changed

My brother flew to Chicago from Toronto, on Friday and they broke the nail fileo off of his nail clipper and let him keep the nail clipper.

Flew from Seattle to Buffalo on Friday. Had a couple of disposable razors and a small nail cutter (with a small file in a toilet kit in a carry-on bag. They never searched the bag or asked me any questions. They were doing a lot of wand waving, but didn't seem to be checking many bags.

However, at the gate, United was calling out a small number who had their carry-ons hand searched at the gate, Don't have any idea how they picked the ones to search,

What about deodorant spray....???

Some checkpoints at airports inside Mexico (this has happened to me in MTY and GDL) are making you remove these from carry-ons.

It is ever so easy to clip your nails before you leave home!

Or if ALL else fails, get a MANICURE, when you get where you are going!
