FAA Security Screener of the Year

(Moving a little OT ... keep me honest, Mr. Moderator.)

This article talks to what I believe are good and bad about airport screening:

FAA names KCI worker nation's best screener

Travelers at Kansas City International Airport can take comfort in knowing that the nation's best airline screener, according to the Federal Aviation Administration, works there.

Sylvia Garcia, who has screened KCI travelers for nearly five years, received the FAA's National Screener of the Year award in August.

Garcia takes pride in her profession, which has come under scrutiny since the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
This explains, IMHO, why we need federal control of security screeners:

The 49-year-old Gladstone resident is employed by ITS Inc., one of four screening companies at KCI.
KCI, a medium size airport, has 4 different companies. Each company, no doubt, has it's own procedures, training, and hiring standards.
