Marvella's Bangkok Report on United

Hallo Ladies..

Marvella is back from Bangkok...
And it was an enjoyable trip, though my frock is a little tattered after that long journey home this morning...

Kitty Meow (my partner) and I left on the 31st, we flew United San Francisco to Hongkong Non-stop, then flew Thai to Bangkok.

In San Francisco you'll never guess what we spotted, United personal in those Ugly red jackets!! Now what is going on here?, and
what has happened to those Luggage templates, we've all been warned about.?

And what's the story with those Gate Agents for the HongKong flight, take about .....y Queens...especially Ms Jackie! Won't want to cross her path, though Kitty Meow, could certainly teach her the meaning of "Cat Fight". The Flight Attendants also seemed a little unhappy to be working the flight, perhaps they'd have rather been out partying for New Years eve..

My experiences with United to Asia out of SFO are to Tokyo, where you'd never run into these kinds of unsavory workers, the Tokyo girls are usually very friendly and happy to serve you.

Lucky our flight wasn't full, so Kitty Meow and I shared 3 seats between us, so we settled in for the long 14hr+ flight.
Meal service deserves Marvella's "1 star" rating, but that mid-flight snack, cup ramen give me a break!!
United your selection of movies also leaves Marvella wondering, didn't I see "Snake Eyes and Family Trap", in September on my way home from Europe?, and United those Duty Free commercials HAVE TO GO.........corny!!!

The new Airport in Hongkong is really something to see, and the Red Carpet Club there deserves Marvella's "5 star" rating. All that space and goodies to munch on! I could have spent all day in there!

Our Thai flight to Bangkok, left promptly on time, spacious and with friendly staff. though their outfits are a little much for a 2 hour flight. For a minute there I thought I was at a Drag show in South Beach. Thai nice choice of colors for the interior, My flat has purple Drapes too.

We stayed at the Westin Banyan Tree in Bangkok, which was a fabulous hotel for the price. Executive floor, included a Marvellaelous breakfast for around 125.00USD a night. Though we did mess up, by not checking the location of the property. It was just a little to far away from all the action. You know us girls, we love to shop!! Marvella Gives the Westin "4 Stars", and maybe an extra star for the extra attention the staff gives to all it guests.

Our Flight home was long, we were scheduled BKK UA HKG UA LAX UA MIA. Our light to Hongkong was wide open, and the staff was cheerful. More then I could say for Kitty Meow, who was up at 415am with me to catch this 725am flight., we could have taken a later flight on Thai, but us girls didn't want to loose those miles!( only 50% on Thai as you all know).

Once we got to Hongkong a group of us were herded off to the United ticket counter and then advised that our flight to LAX was going to be 10 hours delayed, so they rescheduled us on the SFO flight. Or I should say the Cattle flight to SFO, talk about sardines. I could hardly fit all those souvenirs I bought for all the girls back in South Beach in the over head bin. Under the seat in front of me? I don't think so, 6" heals take up a lot of room you know!

Anyhow after a long trip back we're home......Overall we had a Fabulous Trip, though I think next time I won't be so stingy and maybe use my miles to upgrade, that is just too far to travel in economy.

Especially for Queen Marvella!

Who is this "Kitty Meow" person? Maybe we just thought Catman was in TEXAS, when he was really in Bangkok? What about it Catdude?

Catman Jan 6, 1999 11:32 am

Marvella, very nice and very honest travel
report. And yes, the red jackets look like
something out of Soviet Era Russia.

As for you JAWS: HISSS (As my Cats would say)
Especially for going off topic!!!

I don't know Marvella, never met Marvella and if you ask your Texas Ranger friends you'll
find out I was in Texas (You can spot them
with the nice Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream and
contented smiles all over their mouths!) And
simply check with the Outback Steakhouse in College Station and the Ruth's Chris in Dallas -- they'll remember me very well.

I'll get to Bangkok someday... I heard about some school there where they teach massage.
And you'll be the first to know of my travels. CATMAN

the (classic) Thai massage in Bangkok:

Wat Po (wonderful temple area), Thanon Maha Rat, Tf 222 0933 (but nobody ever makes a reservation, just pass by), Bus: 1 (this is the direct bus-line from the Mandarin-Oriental and cost about 5 US cents - o yes a return-trip costs the double!), 6, 7, 8, 12 or better by boat: Tian-Pier.

This is the royal official massage school. You lay there and you are treated for an hour and a half and you will feel newborn (for about US$ 5).

(I'll be there again several times this jan-21 to 24).

G'day Catman! And don't get me started on the TEXAS RANGERS and ice cream. Also, I'll get my friend "3 Finger Charlie" to visit you in Jerzee!!!

Ladies,
No cat fights on the boards please!

For the record, Kitty Meow is not related to or in any way connected to Catman.
But CatMan if you find yourself in South Beach, look me up and I'll introduce the two of you.
Kitty Meow is a lively latina gal!!

As we say in TEXAS, WHOOOOOAAAAAA! Catman, you had better stay off the Nyquil for awhile.

Jetdillo Jan 6, 1999 8:28 pm

Marvella,

I believe that UA shows one batch of movies
domestically one month and then moves them over to their International routes. I know I've looked in Hemispheres to see what they
were showing on the trans-atlantic routes
and seen listed there what they were showing
domestically the previous month or two.
The motion would seem to be domestic->transatlantic->transpacific.
I'm in the air once or twice a month, others
who are more weekly might be able to get a better fix on the exact patterns.
HTH,
JD

Catman Jan 7, 1999 12:26 pm

Marvella, thanks for setting the record straight on where I really was over the holidays. If I make it to SouthBeach I'll consider your invitation.

Jetdillo: it seems the movies are released to the airlines after about 3-4 months and then go the course you said.

Most times I pass on the movie and listen to the music or work. Unless it's a good movie I've already seen and will see again (Like "Sliding Doors" where Ms. Paltrow impressed me as an actress.) CATMAN

Marvella, you get five TCrazy stars for a wonderful trip report. I was going to do a trip report on my South Africa trip, but after your effort, I will hold back. As far as the moies are concerned, they were showing the same ones on SAA (i.e. the Parent Trap, et al).

baobab Jan 7, 1999 12:57 pm

Go on, TC - give us your trip report...

not everyone can discuss fashion with Marvella's refined taste, but I'm sure that Rudi & others would be interested in the wine route!

Travelcrazy Jan 7, 1999 1:12 pm

baobab - I will take it under advisement and thanks for the encouragement.

TC

Catman Jan 7, 1999 1:35 pm

Yes TravelCrazy, post a trip report.

You did a lot of traveling and it has to be more interesting than the "alleged" journeys
of the CAT. CATMAN

Travelcrazy Jan 7, 1999 1:36 pm

Will do in the next few days

fukuchan Jan 8, 1999 1:10 pm

Marvella,
I loved your trip report.
I agree with you. Some of those United gate agents in San Francisco can be really .....y.

Sorry you had to endure your trip in Coach.
I would think a Diva of your stature would be given an automatic upgrade wherever you travel.

Fukuchan
