And the FF Gods Smiled

It has been one heckuva FF day in my household. Apparently the sun, moon and all the planets were all in alignment. Everything went my way.

Today was an atypical 'lay' day for me. I didn't have to work or travel. Here in VT, the weather was great. The high was about 80 with a nice breeze. Not very sunny, but it was still nice not to have to work for a change.

Today, I spent a lot of miles (~300K) and accrued a few more. I was able to:
a. book 2 RT tix in FC to HKG & AKL via AA & CX for next spring. It took an hour on the phone with AA, but I was able to book my planned itinerary with only a few minor changes. I am very much looking forward to FC with CX. Thank you MCI and Marriott for all those AA miles!!
b. booked hotel award stays at the JW Marriott in HKG and the Hilton in AKL for my trip in the spring. Marriott was a simple online reservation. I wanted to use a GLON award at the AKL Hilton, but the HH folks didn't show any availability. A quick call to the hotel itself fixed that and I got the dates I needed.
c. used the remainder of my AA miles for a free FC ticket for my wife on US for a trip to Barbados in December. I'm going with her, but will have to buy a ticket as I need the miles to requalify for US Gold.
d. got a surprise call from Amex regarding the Delta SkyMiles Optima 'double your FF miles' promotion. This was a promotion from last fall that gave you 50,000 miles on Delta when you applied for an Optima SkyMiles card and then spent $10K within six months. Unlike most here, I never got the final information from Amex regarding obtaining the miles. Over the past few weeks, I had been working my way through all the employees at the Amex call center in FLL (I understand that there are 1100 on site) trying to resolve this. Now, they just want me to fax some info to them tomorrow. Life is good. 50,000 miles is very good. (Espcially since they will convert to 100,000 HHonors points).
e. got a call from my wife in ATL reminding me to call for upgrades for our trip on US this weekend. No problem! Back in 2D&F again for those flight. Gotta love US.

It's great when a plan comes together.

Lastly, I would like to thank everyone for what I have learned here over the last two years. It has made a day like today possible.

That's a great day! Did you use any US miles for the AA awards just because you can for a few more days?

Looks like you got in just under the wire! Nice job.

But it's the CX FC to Asia that wins in my book. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
