MBNA World Points Ease of Use?
For credit card use I primarily stick to Amex and Delta Sky Miles, however, the state colleges in Ct. do not take Amex so I have used the MBNA World Points and have accummulated over 40K. I thought that I would use these for interisland flights for our Hawaii trip next year. The last time we went to Hawaii, interisland round trip equivilants were 5K. I understand that they are 10K now. Are the World Points fairly easy to use?

https://wwwa.mbnaworldpoints.com/WCa...ramDetails.jsp The number of Points and corresponding MDV required for coach class Basic Air Rewards are: within the 48 continental states of the U.S.: 25,000/$400; from the 48 states to Alaska, Hawaii, Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, Puerto Rico, the Bahamas, or Bermuda: 35,000/$600; from the 48 states to Europe: 50,000/$800; and from the 48 states to Central or South America, Asia, Africa, or the South Pacific: 75,000/$1,200. |
They seem to follow the "No Hassle" model -- call 'em up, they buy a no-frills ticket at their cost & take your points; a whole 25k 'flat rate' wouldn't surprise me.
Better use: 25k MBNA points is worth $250 in your pocket -- take the award in cash -- buy your own tickets, and get 'new' points for the purchase. ^ /. |
I guess I assumed that they would follow the mileage award requirements of the airlines, which is 10K. When I used my United miles it was 5K for two segments. Since then, its gone up to 10K. I think the cash option is a good one.
