Miles for newborns?
 

I read somewhere that you couldn't sign up a kid until they are two years old, but I just checked American and I don't think they have ask for an age, so I signed her up (3 months old). Obviously she won't get miles when we fly since we don't buy her a seat, and the getting miles for car insurance quotes may be a little difficult, but she could get email summaries and request vehicle online quotes????
Any one know of any specific rules??

Depends on the airline. I took my 11 month old child to New Zealand on AirNZ, and I bought a seat. Air Canada don't allow members under two, but United were happy to credit the roughly 20k miles to a Mileage Plus account.

Anybody know of any airline that gives miles for (paid) infant tickets?

All of the US airlines give miles for paid domestic infant tickets - i.e., the ones that are 50% off. Just put the FF # in the record. I don't believe any airlines give miles for the infant international tickets - i.e., the ones that are 10% of the regular fare.

My daughter (born this April) received the Worldperks Fly Free Faster 10,000 mile bonus prior to her birth. Her parents knew the name to be, registered her for Worldperks membership and purchased in her name from 5 Worldperks partners.

All the majors I've used (NWA, DL, AA, etc.) give mileage for any paid ticket. You wouldn't get miles for children under 2 years only because they normally wouldn't pay.

As mentioned above though, you don't always have to provide an age to get a FF account.

Not only can infants be signed up for FF programs, they can earn elite status cheaply. If you call the airline to make their reservation, or use expedia.com you can frequently get a child's ticket for 1/2 price or less, with full FF miles. My youngest son, now age 2, was confused about the small seat (his FAA approved booster seat did not fit in the coach seat.) and limited service on a flight when, for the first time in his life, we did not get upgrades on a segment. (note: We did have to use milage upgrades for him until he became elite and started earning his own upgrades). He was 10 days old on his first flight. Before he turned two, we usually bought him a seat on any trip over two hours.

So does anyone know of signup any current sign-up bonuses, So I can can get her started off right??
I know I just missed the Northwest one.

About lying about the kid's age:

That may backfire once you want to use child/youth fares later.

Of course, they'll get a head start on qualifying for senior citizen fares. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

i was able to sign her up for UA, DL, NW, AA, Hawaiian all without lying.

flytoeat, I wish my parents had been as innovative! Maybe I wouldn't have had to work so hard, since I was 10 years old. Now, I am spending all that hard earned money on fares to keep my Elite status.

Can't blame the child for complaining about the small seats in coach. Everybody complains. Especially, the people seated next to a heavyweight. How do they like the food served on occasion? Or do they bring their own favorites?
