WRT incessant pressing of the button and all,
has anybody considered the idea that the airlines and aircraft manufacturers might be
to blame in part, at least when it comes to
button abuse by VIFFs?

Look at the icon on the button. It's an androgynous stick figure holding a tray with drinks on it.
