AAdvantage Dinning and Diners Club
Quick question. I found a dinning establishment that participates in Both AAdvantage dining and the Diners Club program the gives you 20% of your meal. The question is, if one were to register their Diners Club card with AAdvantage Dinning would they get the 20% from Diners and the miles from AAdvantage dinning. I spoke with four reps today at Diners Club and they had no clue as to what I was talking about.

Yes you could if AAdvantage Dining took a Diners card. But they don't.

I suggest you call them and clarify the above
since I have tried on more than one ocasion to do what you say you did. What I think will happen is when you pay with Diners you will get 20% off and when you pay with your Visa you will get miles. No miles and 20% off with Diners. Programs are now administered by one company. Mike P.S. Before editing the post I decided to call and clarify the above and it is as I thought no miles with Diners Club only 20% off. [This message has been edited by MIKESILV (edited 05-25-2001).] |
Keep us posted if you get the discount and AAdvantage miles. I didn't think Diner's was eligible for AA dining either.

Mikesilv is correct.

I have always been told that they don't take Diner's Club. Is someone saying, clarified, that the program took your Diner's Club card? The dining Program (i-Dine) will give either 15% or 10 miles per $1, - either one, not both. Corrected misinformation. When Transmedia and Dining a la card first merged, I was told, if I signed up for miles, that I would get it on subsequent visits in the same month. WRONG. It works just like the old dining program - first visit of the month. Too bad. I liked the other better. The 15%, most of the restaurants (a few exceptions) allow several visits each month up to $600 per month. For awhile, AMEX had the offer zone (It seems to be nolonger) and you could register your amex for restaurant promos, which sometimes gave 20% off. For those in both programs, I did get both. The prgram seems to be gone.

I called them back 800-479-5981, press option 3, and speak to Jenny. Explained that I signed up last week, and that I registered a VISA and my Diners Club, but that others had told me that AAdvantage Dining can't do Diners, she told me emphatically that YES, DINERS IS ELIGIBLE.
I can't vouch for it, as I haven't used it, and likely won't anytime soon, as this is my biz travel card, and I don't have any trips scheduled at present, but I have gotten the same answer from the 2 folks I spoke with, so I'd suggest if you have a question, call them and ask. ------------------ Celebrating 4 years of United Airlines free travel this August! |
I must apologize to fholt you are correct.
I called Dining for Miles and it appears they now accept Diners Club. This was put in place only very recently but if you register your card you will get 10 miles provided THE RESTAURANT accepts the card ( many in the program do not) Note also that the Diners can be used for all the participating airlines in the Dining for Miles prorgram, this is particularly good news for me since I prefer NWA miles and I now can get miles and points in Diners I can transfer to Worldperks. No problem Mikesilv, it's hard to get a striaght answer sometimes to these questions, and even those administering them don't always have the latest.
I am well aware of the issue with finding places that take Diners, but that's what my co gave me to travel with (half of us have diners, half amex, supposedly to keep both citibank and amex honest - but once you're on diners you can't go back and get the amex. I can easily do air and hotel with it, but sometimes it's just easier to use my personal card or cash for eating out. Large and hotel connected places usually take the Diners, little hole in the wall places often don't. ------------------ Celebrating 4 years of United Airlines free travel this August! |
One thing you will find is the quarterly booklet you will get from Dining for Miles listing restaurants will also list the cards
each establishment will take so you know beforehand if you can use the Diners. Mike |
WHOOPS - seems FT really ought to get the posting operation smoothed out - this happens a lot to me. I got an error message and didn't see the post. Put it all back in again....

Thanks for the tip fholt! I almost always use my Diners for meals and since my business travels are always in large metropolitan cities, almost everyone accepts the card, though I had no idea that they were part of the airline Dining programs, other than the LeCard program that Diners offers.

I just called I-dine, and they indeed said that accept Diners Club. Has anyone used their Diners Club in a restaurant that is listed in both programs and gotten both 20% and miles. I want to be sure that is what happen's before I substitute Diners for 1 of my cards.

After fholt's post today I called the number for the AAdvantage Dining for Miles and this is how I now understand the program to work ( later called back on the Delta Dining for miles line and got the same answer )
The programs are run by the same people. You have the option of signing up for any of the airline programs free of cost and you get 10 miles per $, first visit per month only, max 6000 miles per visit using the AMEX/VISA/MC/DC/Discover you list when you signup, OR you can sign up for I-DINE you can make any number of visits to a restuarant and you get 20% off the bill (deducted on your card statement)HOWEVER I-DINE COSTS $49.99 PER YEAR You cannot enroll the same card in a airline program and I-DINE SO NO 20% OFF PLUS MILES. They did mention both programs had many of the same restaurants although I-DINE had more. Mike [This message has been edited by MIKESILV (edited 05-29-2001).] |
