This is NOT the most interesting or informative thread in the history of Flyertalk.
If you e-mail, why not just leave it at that without adding a message here. And Info Tech Traveler, will you get 14 invitations for your 14 posts? Honestly ... [Excuse me while I yawn.] |
Fewmiles: I hear what you're saying and I understand, but I am a new member (recently came across this site) and I think the site is great! But if you restrict it to members at least 90 days old, then I have to miss out for 90 days. If that's the guidelines, I can live with that. You're right though, catch-22 big time! I don't know what the answer is.
Dilly Goldlust, I was bored and decided to do a little counting. Of all the people who have responded with "Please sign me up" on this or the other thread in the Hilton board, I count about 25 "newer" FTers. These are people who have typically less than 50 posts and have been here less than three months or so. If I were paranoid about who I could or could not "trust", I'd be wondering about these people. So many seem like complete newcomers to FT and one of their first few posts is to ask to be put on a mailing list devoted to exploiting things like "fare and rate mistakes". There are others who registered on FT a long time ago, but have very few posts. Do you trust these people? I believe you stated that the criteria for being added to the list were: interest, being a known FTer, and being trustworthy. Well, interest is the easy one. What do you define being a known or well known FTer as? What about trustworthy? I know you don't want to publish your exact selection criteria, but I think you're in a catch-22. Who are you going to trust? What are the people you reject going to think? There's always a danger of someone doing the emmissary thing. Sorry, I have to agree with cactuspete... I'm not sure this is such a good idea. FewMiles.. [/QUOTE] |

Maybe it's not such a good idea. As a new member, I've gotten some wonderful advice here, have tried to give back a little where I could (often hard to find anything worthwhile to add to a discussion, tho, with all these super-seasoned pro's here), have officially done a milage run, and bought my 'Official FF Guidebook' to support Randy and his efforts.
And maybe that's what bothers me. Secret email lists seem rather contrary to the spirit of this board and what Randy has tried to create here. I wonder if we will hear from him on this idea? |
Well, my single post was duplicated. Maybe there's a problem on the site?
Did that happen to you, Info Tech Traveler? (But still, 14 times, that must have been some problem!) |
I'd love to be included on this list as well. I'm not a frequent poster but I read a lot of these groups and I find everyone's comments and stories very helpful. I'm sure I'm not alone in this regard. Goldlust, I understand if you'd like to restrict membership to those who you've gotten to "know" by virtue of frequent postings. It also seems fair that those people should be included first since they're obviously contributing the most. But I figured I'd ask anyway. Either way, I think it's a great idea, I wish you all the best, and I look forward to reading more interesting (and often amusing) posts!

Well, having been reading Kokonutz' soapbox forum since it started I have to say I'm having second thoughts about The List. Please have fun without me.
