Sidestep.com, to use or not to use?

I have downloaded/installed and started using SideStep.com to compare fare shop with pretty good results. Are there any negatives to this site, they really just launch and take you back to the provider, much like MYSimon.com. Newbie sniffing out deals........

Many times when you are on another travel web site it will detect that you are searching for an airfare and "auto-launch" itself. I have found it more irritating than useful.

I have also found that the prices are almost always higher than the other sites. It pops up for Orbitz, Travelocity, etc. and runs it's own fare finder. I have not found a good deal yet on Sidestep.

I really like Sidestep, I have often found better deals using it than using other methods & even when it doesn't have a better deal it often is worth using just for the interface. Don't use it exclusively, but do use it.

I concur on the annoying "self launching" feature, so much so that I uninstalled it. It looked like it had promise, but when I set it up and did some real life searches, it never beat my usual sites.

I don't think I've seen any better deals come up on Side Step. I also find the auto launch of the site to be annoying at times. I am thinking on uninstalling it.

I think it does a very decent job of show you a "capsule" of the market. Sometimes they do indeed have a very good price that is better than travelocity or expedia, however, Hotwire still remains my "place to go."

Not to sound like a broken record but I have found much better rates searching around and that autolaunch feature is annoying. Tjanks for bringing this up I was going to uninstall SideStep.

Although I too found it interesting and promising, it was immediately uninstalled the first time that it self-launched.
That kind of stuff is not permitted on my computer nor on the computer of anyone I know who has even a smidgen of technical knowledge.

The first time I used Sidestep, I wound up saving about $300 on a BWI-SJU RT. It found an AA internet special that didn't come up when using the AA regular search engine. In order to find the special, I had to go through 3-4 links on AA's web page. Since then, it's mostly be for comparison. No deals like the firs.

Please help me to delete sidestep. I thought I did, but it continues to show up to the left of my travelocity, expedia and others. Once out of maybe 50 times did it ever show a lower fare which made me suspicious about booking with them.

I thought I liked it, but the only thing it proved when it popped up was that it couldn't beat other sites. Plus, the self launching feature, and the fact that you had to install it was very irritating. Personally, I like Orbitz.com.

you need to go to your START menu (if you have a non-Mac) and select SETTINGS, then CONTROL PANEL. In CONTROL PANEL select ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS, simply choose Sidestep from that menu and remove it.

Hopefully that works, that's how I did it on my computer.

I have gotten great rate from this one, MEM to MCO for $153 RT.....seen HNL for $334.Now they have an internet specials area. I understand the self launch can be pesky! But I am curious.....with all the "cookies" being used on our computers why would there be a problem with a self start launch cost saving attemp for no effort. When I ignore the split screen it times out and does not restart. I will be surfing the Hotwire and Orbitz site mentioned however. Cookies anyone???? More info on best places please.
