miles for events?

Ciao - just wondering if anyone knows of someone drowning in miles who would be interested in helping me get my family from the US to Italy for my wedding. It's a huge financial burden for us.

Thanks for any info!
Rachel

Any bets as to how long this thread lasts?

srfrgirl4 Jun 14, 2005 10:54 am

Is this a joke?? Does she realize asking for points is like begging for money from strangers?? People have qualms about giving these to their own blood relatives.

Rachel- why don't you start by asking someone you may actually know??

Make a smaller wedding and pay for your family to come from Italy.

Ft isn't a charity board, and if it were, there are legitimate charities to donate miles to.

RCC Jun 14, 2005 8:36 pm

as the saying goes the only question not asked is the stupid one>>??<<

I gotta give you credit on actually posting this question to total strangers.

An above poster is absolutely correct, why not ask for money.

Just a tip, dont bite off more than you can chew....

good luck to you on obtaining miles & your wedding.

This guy at least tried something innovative

Not sure if it worked ;)

Miles

Currently, I have about 200,000, but i want 300,000. Will someone give me 100,000 miles? HAHAHA!!!

goingsomewhere Jun 14, 2005 9:21 pm

I wouldn't fly some of my relatives to some of my special events, now why would I help out someone I don't know.

oklAAhoma Jun 14, 2005 9:28 pm

I'm not drowning in miles but I'm drowning in money. How 'bout I just pay for the entire wedding plus the airfare to fly everyone and anyone you know to Italy?

mymyles Jun 14, 2005 9:56 pm

can i go too???

oklAAhoma Jun 14, 2005 10:55 pm

Sure - the more, the merrier! :D

fet Jun 14, 2005 11:23 pm

I agree

BearX220 Jun 14, 2005 11:47 pm

If every FTer would just give me $100, I could take a year off and do nothing. Please help me realize my dream. Thank you!

Tmpy Jun 15, 2005 5:49 am

I don't think this poster realizes who they're dealing with here. A lot of us would do anything to get miles and to think we'd just give them away. Ha! Best of luck on your marriage.

hernande Jun 15, 2005 5:53 am

How about an elopement?

I can live more economically. I will request a mere $10 from each FTer. Please PM me for payment details.

BigBopper Jun 15, 2005 7:37 am

I used to own a very large mobile DJ service. Believe it or not, a stuipd request like this came in about once a week. "I have 3 kids to support and can't afford and extravagant wedding, will you DJ it for free?" People often call the newspaper and get sympathy and the journalist starts working for them looking for donations.

Wonder why she doesn't just call the airlines and ask for free tickets out of goodwill. Oh wait, maybe it's because they're in business to make money.

iCorpRoadie Jun 15, 2005 9:08 am

I get requests from Charity Groups to 'lower my price' or 'can't you do it for free'. I give them the best price i can without loosing my shirt, house, car, and business. Whenever I get mailers, calls, soliciations from other groups for 'giving' money to them for thier group, I tend to say sorry, I already give more than enough to other Charity Groups, tell your meeting planner to call me.

So where is the part where I get free/discounted things? Dosen't 'good go around'?

If the OP spent a little more time reading this post:

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=441986

She'd figure out that a snowball had a better chance in hell than getting sympathy or tickets.

Also, if I do know of someone drowning in miles, I'd certainly be keeping that info to myself so I can fly my own family to Italy @:-)

BTW, welcome to Flyertalk! :D

Where you are are welcomed to ask reasonable questions and contribute with your own miles; just please don't ask strangers for theirs unless you plan on naming your kid after him/her

jfe Jun 15, 2005 1:08 pm

Instead of flying to Italy, how about a wedding in Las Vegas at Caesar's Palace, this way it won't be such an economic burden ;)

You still get the Roman ambiance, more or less :p

Hey, my baby girl is about to arrive, would you all like to register for her Upromise account :D

luv2ctheworld Jun 15, 2005 1:21 pm

Why not Venice, or Lake Como

I'd recommend Venetian or Bellagio... ancient Rome is so passé!

She could then have a picture of her and hubby to be on a gondola ride, much cheaper than seeing the real thing! Plus this time of year, it may not smell all that nice in the real Venice :p

Congrats on your upcoming bundle of joy... I'd like to register for Upromise, but I'm a bit low on miles and dollars! :(

My Daughter is going to Princeton. It's a huge financial burden on us. If you would all give me all of your FF miles and Hotel points, I would have to spend less on travel, and would have more money to pay the Princeton Tuition. Please don't disappoint my daughter's dream of a great college education!

:)

Have a nice day.

If there isn't a rule against posts of this nature, there ought to be. Or FT will soon look like the streets of my fair city - full of panhandlers who have little of value to offer.

Moderator, I implore you - please close this thread!

I agree that the OP violates at least the spirit of FT, if not the letter of the TOS. But I don't think it is indicative that we will be overrun by oodles more - afterall the OP didn't even receive a crumb from anyone.

How do you know? Maybe she got a PM from someone who fell for her story but doesn't want to be publicly thrashed... :D

We see a number of these silly begging posts every day on craigslist. Lack of response does not seem to be a deterrent. There is no shortage of people looking for handouts in this country. :td:

Good point. Any do-gooder who admitted that publicly would never live it down.

OK. You may be right about this as well. Maybe I just didn't want this thread locked yet because I have been enjoying the various responses. ;)

Moderator2 Jun 16, 2005 4:23 am

As long as the humorous tint stays in the thread, there is no real harm here. Obviously at this point, the OP recognizes this "plan" will have a snowball's chance here on FT.

Play nice!

Thanks for keeping this open! This is (almost) as much fun as the "I charged $3,400 in expenses to my client for desktop support, was that wrong?" thread last week.

Hear hear! (Or should I say Har Har :) ).

What ever happened with that? Do we all predict a great future for that company?
