My older son's private school also accepts debit cards only for mayment. The downside of the B of A card is that it gives 1 mile/$2 spent. But, I only use it for purchases that I could not use a credit card for.

The credit card pages of my website, Free Frequent Flyer Miles, lists them all. My favorites for your purposes would be the Delta card for a year, then the Starwood card. And/or the Citi Platinum Dividend card. Note that if you use the Starwood card enough, you can continue to get it free after the first year.

Yes, I too would like to know how much constitutes enough to request waiving the fee and how would you go about asking for it.

My grocery store offers up to $100 cash back on top of whatever you are spending when using a debit card.
Wonder if that extra $100 would accrue miles/points with the appropriate debit card? Anybody know? |

(Unless you can point me at someplace that says they are.) Look at the catalog: https://www.thankyouredemptions.com/pdfs/catalog.pdf On page 10 they list all their air travel rewards. They only offer a few categories of tickets (for example, no business class international, and even coach international only to SOME more common destinations). You CANNOT transfer into real Frequent Flyer miles (which the Original Poster says they're already collecting), to "top off" an account to get to an award, or to use miles for upgrades. IMHO the "Thank You" system is worthless for someone who already belongs to one or more FF programs and is looking to get more miles into those programs. For someone like myself, who had previously used FF miles primarily for international upgrades and now uses them for free international coach tickets, this may be a better program. Let me explain - I often fly to Glasgow Scotland. I used to fly UA or AA and upgrade the international legs. With the new rules (upgrades fee, higher cost fare clases), I have started to fly CO since it is much more direct (ROC-EWR-GLA) rather than ROC-ORD-LHR-GLA. Since I'm not fond of the CO FF program, gathering these miles may end up having more value while I'll still earn my basic FF miles for my CO flights. Larry |

Generally speaking, rewards are not given to cardholders for engaging in such transactions, as the merchant pays a flat transaction fee (ca. 15-30 cents) rather than a percentage discount rate.
