FT Evangelist

So, When did FT Evangelist become a title? I guess I have some work to do. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif it looks like the threshold is around 250? Are there other levels? I didn't see this posted anywhere else yet...

Thanks for the link, Boston Boy. I haven't been here for a visit in a few days and missed that discussion--just noticed that I'm an Evangelist, too. I'm happy with that designation.

MRKEY Oct 28, 2000 12:03 pm

It looks like I'll be there soon, but the posting counter jumped from 247 to 134...maybe I can upgrade after Baht RUN is over and I am back home.

It would be nice to have a higher level though. Something more prestigeous to look up to...

Kyklin has a current thread about "1000 Poster Club". More of them than many might think!

Randy's staff are still skillfully whittling DOC's solid platinum luggage tag to commemorate his 10,000th post milestone this week. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

As an Elite Executive Silver Dipped Pewter well on my way to Titanium I would like to know when I get a seat next to Doc and Ozstamps. Why must I sit in the back middle seats with people like mackbravery and cactuspete? I want, I want, I want - I need, I need, I need.

Because I am Elite Executive Silver Dipped Pewter and I demand the respect I have earned!

O.K. - Maybe I'm just acting like many people that I see in the airport http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

OK. In complete seriousness, I demand that all of my status and privileges be removed at once, in the name of Simply Good Business.

ozstamps Apr 7, 2004 12:57 am

Inflation runs rampant. :-)

Well we have all heard about MILEAGE inflation.

Well how about "EVANGELIST" inflation?

When I signed up on FT it took 250 posts to make it. Seems like it is now 10,000 posts. Or 40 times higher. Thank goodness the airlines have not been that tough on us. ;)

And as you can see in the post above doc deservedly gets his own special level:

doc
FlyerTalk Legend

^^:D^^

It can be done!

This can be arranged I am sure. In order that SGB be envoked in its' full level, you should send me a check for a few $1000 just to make sure you feel the pain of being one of FT's best customers. Remember, the better the customer you are, the more it cost to keep you, and we know, you are not wanted if it cost money to keep you!

You are probably one of those people who demand everything for free! ;) (you know I am kidding......)

hnechets Apr 7, 2004 5:27 pm

But of course I do. :)

"When I signed up on FT it took 250 posts to make it. Seems like it is now 10,000 posts. Or 40 times higher. Thank goodness the airlines have not been that tough on us."

Well, when I think back to some of the awards we had -- INSIDE FLYER last month only showed us a few of the "golden oldies" -- I think the inflation level has been about the same. Not only did we get two First Class awards to anywhere for the same number of miles/points as one Business class award ticket today, we got a week in a suite at the Hilton or Westin, PLUS a week's rental of a Caddie or Lincoln!

So that explains why I have become an Evangelist. I was kinda wondering if it was a birthday present from Randy, or something.

TravelWeary Apr 8, 2004 8:51 pm

You mean at 250 posts years ago I was an Evangelist and now I'm nothing?

ozstamps Apr 10, 2004 5:51 pm

Bit like Frequent Flyer programs actually, when you think on it. ;)

Exactly. I'm afraid it is Easter and you are no longer an Evangelist! :)

Thank you ozstamps for digging this thread up from the "Archives". I remember when I joined FT, there were "junior members", "members" and "evangelists". Then these terms disappeared until last week. I don't recall that Randy Petersen has commented on this subject recently. Perhaps members who joined years ago when you could be an Evangelist with 250 posts, could be grandfathered. :) Then in another 3 years or so, I too could attain that exalted rank.

StSebastian Apr 10, 2004 11:32 pm

You might get that status, but if you don't keep up your post rate, you'll lose that status and have to re-earn it the next year. And then it'll be more difficult to obtain because it's more important not just to have raw post count, since that's not an accurate measurement of the overall contribution, but to have meaningful posts. Therefore, rather than just counting the raw post count we'll be scoring each post with a rating and using the combination of those to determine the worth so that the status is a meaningful representation of their contribution to the establishment.

Now there will always be those who want to make sure they maintain status so that the pages load faster for them, so they'll probably be off in their own forum on a "posting run" and rating each of their posts positively. Once management learns about this they'll definately try to put a stop to it by harassing the best posters that just were trying to get a few more, and ignore taking away the function to create new forums and threads, still allowing people to do it anyway. Management won't realize that while a few of these aren't useful, all of them contribute and are good members of the program. Anyone willing to take the time to make the extra posts should be encouraged.

At the end of the day, does it really matter that much?

ozstamps Apr 15, 2004 9:11 am

StSebastian - I believe Randy's view is that we are all as good as our last post. :D

Nanook Apr 16, 2004 10:51 am

How about an "Apprentice Evangelist" designation. If you don't make at least 25 posts a week you're fired.

TravelWeary Apr 16, 2004 11:17 am

Only 27 Years to Go!

OK, I did the math. With 1,554 posts in 5 years, I average 310 posts per year. With 8,446 posts left to reach 10,000 posts, it will take me 27 years to become an Evangelist again!

cactuspete Apr 16, 2004 1:55 pm

Seems that we also have a "FlyerTalk Legend" posting occaisionally. ^^

ozstamps Apr 16, 2004 11:11 pm

Yes I also noticed that Flyertalker member #823 has been designated officially as a "Flyertalk Legend" and not simply an "Evangelist".

Well deserved recognition too IMHO:

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/member.php?userid=823

22 posts a day average for 5 years is surely more than 'posting occasionally'? ;)

Counsellor Apr 17, 2004 5:42 am

Maybe,

but I'm still a believer in quality, not just quantity.

The Coward Strikes Again

Someone anonymously dinged me for the above comment.

Coward!

ozstamps Apr 18, 2004 4:38 am

Childish. Turn the "reputation" silliness off is my advice, as I did from Day #1 of it, and let the 14 year olds have their sorority 'fun'.

A dumb feature that FT does NOT need, and never needed. IMHO.

Punki Apr 18, 2004 5:41 pm

Oh, TravelWeary, I too am an ex-evangalist.

I might hit it again in about 2010! :D

Of course, by that time it will probably take something like 50,000 post to make it.

What do you mean, TravelWeary, by saying you are a "nothing"? You are certainly something very, very special in my book! ^ ^

thezipper Apr 18, 2004 7:32 pm

I think I missed FT Evangelist by like 50 posts or less... I was working towards it...then Randy turned that feature off :-( ...

Punki: You are way too kind. At any rate, I'm a posting slowpoke, so it's my own fault. BTW, I saw your darling daughter at the Co-op this weekend. Obviously all the best people shop there!

I suspect the "special" categories ("Evangelist" and "Commander Catcop" come to mind) trump mere old age. :D

Er, strike that "old age" part - in Punki's case I meant to say "longevity and faithful service".

"Old age" is appropriate in my case, though. :D :D
