Your thoughts ... ?
If you had the option to "buy" between 100k and 150k points each month from your employer that can be converted direct to FF points for say A$500 (US$250), would you ?
They would cost you on average US$.002 per point ... Just interested as I may have a proposition to put to my employer ... ? ------------------ keep those miles (km) coming ... paul |

You'd be crazy not to but that price does seem strange. I could believe .02 per mile but not .002!
|
Can you share any of the specs on this? Why would your employer allow you to buy miles, and how can they allow you to buy miles?
|
If this is via a program where a company buys miles to give out as rewards or whatever, and they're willing to let you buy some (good for them if the price goes down as they buy more), keep in mind that there is usually a limit on how many miles can go to one person in a year. This is usually somewhere around 25,000 miles.
That said, US$250 for 125K miles IS $.002 per point, an incredible price - about a tenth of what their value is commonly estimated as. Intercontinental first class round trips for that price? Where can I sign up? |
If that proposition works on your employer, then have him call mine and talk him into it!!
Normally $250 will buy between 10k and 12.5k miles. Airlines sell them at .025 if you are short miles for an award and I think if you buy in bulk you can get them at maybe .02. |
just figure that the 100K miles will, on most airlines give you an rt from the US to Europe in FC. for 250 USD that is definately a good deal. Will he sell to me as well??? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

It is kind of available to all employees of any company ...
Think of it as a "bribe" for me being able to pay every possible expenses on my amex card to get MR points. And the expense is prepaid so I dont get caught if the company goes "belly-up" I forego a certain benefit each month (to the value of US$250) and this is my "reward" ... Seems to work so far ... |
QF, I think you are off by a factor of 10. These programs typically cost 2 to 2.5 cents per mile. I am not aware of any that are at .2 cents per mile unless the company you work for is underwriting 90% of the cost which seems unlikely.
|
one program i checked into was buy a couple of million mi's for 2+ cents/mi. award them to customers or employees . max /recipent 35k/yr. the presw i talked to about this, said " what could someone do w/35k mi. its not worth messing with!
