1 million Status?
 

Hi Everyone,

I was hoping someone could help me out with a question. Please forgive my ignorance because I am very new at this.

I was wondering how does one get to 1 million points status if the points expire within 3 years of earning them.

It seems almost impossible, however, reading these boards, many of you have done it or are almost there.

Thanks for any info you can tell me.

The 1 million status is clocked for life and does not expire. The total miles earned or flown is clocked and recorded separately. Dont worry Start flying http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Can you be a bit more specific? The 1MM status on most airlines is life flown (or in some cases accumulated through any means) to date, and that counter has no expiration.

Also, many airline programs do not expire miles 3 years after use now.

Most airlines have changed to miles not expiring if there is any kind of activity due to any reason in your account - it could be a flight, but as easily be miles on a rental car, a credit card, miles for dining in a restaurant. I think this change has made a tremendous difference for all of us in how we approach collecting miles. 1MM status is how much you have collecting over the life of your membership, not how many miles you currently have in your account. Only American Airlines allows for ALL deposits to go towards 1 MM status - which gives you lifetime Gold Status, and 2 MM gives you lifetime Platinum Status.

You're correct, with one caveat. Only most US based airlines have switched to non-expiring miles. As far as I know, most non-US airlines still expire miles.

That's why I was asking for more details...
