Concorde flying on miles
 

I want to fly on the Concorde on miles when it begins flying again.

I have a lot of AAdvantage miles and AMEX MR points.

Has anyone heard when the Concorde may start flying again?
What is the best way to allocate my miles?
How many miles can I expect to use?

BA Executive Club has Concorde awards that cost between 95,000 and 125,000 miles. Think Diners Club with this one!

I don't know if they have an award using "new" (post-1989) AA miles. When we did it, it cost 175,000 "old" (pre-1989) AA miles for two tickets. If you still have any of those, the ward codes are still valid. Ask for award code 175H.

In a related vein, does anyone need a copy of the awards you can still claim with old AA miles? I kept several copies of the last letter AA sent containing them, and I'll be happy to e-mail a copy to anyone.

I don't think you can transfer AMEX MR points to AA or BA. You can however (I think) still transfer them to TWA and then have them folded in to AA when the two programs merge.

My BA statement of a year ago lists 125,000 miles for US to Europe with the transatlantic legs on Concorde, continuation in Business (150,000 to Africa, Middle East or India; 175,000 to Far East or Australia); 40,000 miles to upgrade First to Concorde. They also had special "one way" awards (JFK to LHR on Concorde, return subsonic): 95,000 or 110,000 miles depending on whether the return was in coach or business. I did the coach deal but threw the return half away (I was actually headed to the Far East and continued in that direction). I enjoyed the Concorde flight and consider the miles well spent.

I believe you should (might?) be able to get a Concorde ticket through Delta on Air France ... maybe not though because of the no First Class awards thing on Delta ...

You can also claim a concorde rt. award on AF using CO miles. 200,000 miles i think...

Pacha is correct. Air France rewards, from the CO website...

Since the reward is for a trip to Europe, I would think that one could include a continuation from Paris in FC to any of AF's other European destinations.

I'm thinking of booking to Moscow, with the Concorde to Paris, as soon as AF resumes Concorde flights. CO's recent rounds of bonus bonanzas is making this doable!

Great thread. I too hope the Concorde will fly again soon, as I dont want to miss experiencing it before it gets pulled (definetely) from service.

Whats the status with it coming back into operation?

Side question if/when the Concorde resumes flying - do you think there will be special promotions (ie. discounted fares, reduced FF miles required)? Part of me thinks yes, another part thinks no, because there will be so much built up demand to fly it (especially from people that never have, but now realize it definitely has a limited lifetime), that no discounting will be required.

I don't think I'd spend 200k miles on it, but for 100k or so (even if it was one way on Concorde, and other way coach), I'd certainly consider it.

I was reading that BA is hoping to be back in service this summer and Air France is expection to be back in operation by September. Nothing certain yet, but that is what they've said!

I seriously doubt if there will be special promotions. The pent-up demand will definitely be there. For 30 years, BA and AF have charged full-fare FC, plus a 20% Concorde differential...and have easily gotten it! Your typical Concorde flyer isn't the same as your average Disney flyer, and isn't going to be scared off by one plane crash.

Remember, there are only 12 existing Concordes, 5 belonging to AF and 7 to BA. And each Concorde can only fly 100 pax per flight. So, I think there will be plenty of takers for any resumed Concorde flights!

As far as a one way reward, most airlines don't provide for them. However, if you want to pay cash, you can of course buy a one way ticket.

Now, if you had been reaping the largesse of CO's recent mileage bonuses, perhaps the 200K miles wouldn't be such a problem. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif
