The Ballots Are In: THE OFFICIAL FREDDIE RESULTS

Well, you might have missed all the excitement yesterday in New York when biztravel.com co-sponsored the 13th Annual Freddies Awards. This year some 163,000 frequent flyers like you cast their ballot to name the best frequent traveler programs around. Were there surprises? Yes. Were there some upsets? Yes. What did you miss? Well, there was a heck of a party with more than 400 people at the W New York on Wednesday night for a pre-Freddie bash and then the actual awards on Thursday afternoon.

I don't know what surprises and upsets there were since most of the awards looked like clones of last year.

Program of the year - same
Best award - same
Best award redemption - same
Best bonus promo - airline is the same
Best card - same
Best elite level program - same

True enough that Starwood & Continental were again the big winners while United & Hilton again appeared to make a relatively poor showing!

Even Aeromexico's CP Newsletter scored another huge win, just as it did last year! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

If votes actually "lag" a bit in terms of the current true experiences of voters out there, than maybe next year will bring some real changes and surprises! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/eek.gif

Perhaps the travel industry doesn't really care much about the Freddies (except for the winners).

SAS EuroBonus won 6 Freddies making it the most rewarded program worldwide.

That fact alone makes the Freddies look worthless to me.

PG .. "Best Award" seems to have gone this year to Marriott. Last year it was Starwood, so they do not look to be clones to my quick comparison?

Marriott edged out Starwood by 0.001 points! Talk about a close vote! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/eek.gif

I was SURPRISED, that the winners held their places from last year! Could you have guessed it in advance?

To me, that means the winners are committed to WINNING! That is nice in this day and age of mediocrity!
