what's double dipping? is it any good?

double dipping means that you get both hotel points and airline miles. There is no signup necessary, and Hilton is the only hotel that does this.

Since you also had some questions about Starwood, I would recommend reading those respective forums (Hilton, Starwood) to get an idea of the features and strengths of the programs.

Nearly all of the properties in the HHonors program offer double-dipping. I say "nearly" because there always seem to be a couple of rare properties that do things differently, but it is definitely not just the Hiltons.

The only "signup" required is that you obviously need an HHonors account. If you don't have one, get one online for a few bonus points (www.hhonors.com). Double-dipping is a primary feature of the program, so you don't need promo codes and you don't need to specifically ask for it at the hotels (as long as your HHonors profile is set up correctly with an FF number).

The HHonors board here on FT has a great deal of detailed info about everything HHonors-related.

IMHO, Double-dipping is very much worth it.
