Family mileage accounts. Which programs??
 

I know that with British Airways i can pool our miles together as a family or mutual account.

What i want to find out is which other airlines and hotel groups operate their programs in a similar way.

Olympic Airways does the same thing. Indeed it is mandatory for minors < 18 y/o to credit miles to parent's (s') account & one must be >18 to have one's own account.
I had a great flight & service on a 4-hr. flight ATH--LHR on March 16 in Y incl. free alcohol & a full meal.

Unfortunately, OA has no airline partners, so now I have 1994 orphan miles :( , as I have no intentions of going to Greece again soon.

All Nippon Airways has a family club for people residing outside of Japan.

KE and OZ allow family members to pool miles together too.

QF does not have family accounts, but it does allow one free transfer from one account to another within the (quite extended) family per year. This was introduced as compensation for the extreme devaluing of QF awards to be introduced in May.

Hotels
 

Hilton has discontinued its MutualFund HHonors accounts, but left those of us who already have them grandfathered (for now).

Marriott will allow you to draw from a spouse's account the specific miles to claim an award if you don't have the miles in your own account (but cannot otherwise transfer between accounts).

Starwood does not combine but allow you to transfer into your spouse. Following is part of the email that I received>

We are unable to allow combination of individual accounts, whether for spouses' accounts, or for other members of your household. However, we do allow unlimited Starpoint transfers between accounts of members in the same household for redemption purposes, if the following requirements are met:

1. Both members live at the same address.
2. The member whose account is being deducted must advise us of his/her password.
3. Neither member is an employee of Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide.

Hawaiian Airlines will let you combine miles if you have HA Visa.
HA miles are easily transferred from Amex MR and can be tranferred in Hilton among other patrners.

Qatar Airways Privilege Club allows family account. I believe you can add 8 or 9 family members. All earned miles by any member go into one account and anyone can use them. You can earn and burn on Virgin Atlantic, Lufthansa and Middle East airlines. Their rewards on Qatar airways metal are very cheap. Awards on Virgin and Lufthansa are also comparable to other airlines. Too bad they don't fly to the US. But for someone who flies with Lufthansa and Virgin, its a great option.

It looks like BA must be the only mainstream carrier to offer this.

I have some small amounts in CO,Virgin and AA and i hoped that they may have offered this but kept it quiet!!

AA miles can be converted to HHonors @ 1:2 in 5000 chunks. CO can be converted to Amtrak Guest Rewards & then on to HHonors @ same ratio or you can get a Marriott Free Night cert. for 10K.
I've read an FT post which says they can even be transferred into a friend's HHonors account.

Back in March the young woman sitting next to me was using her father's Continental Platinum Elite card to upgrade and accrue miles.

I guess this was an "unofficial" family account. Maybe her father had the same first name initial.

So much for airline security.

Heh - my dad and I have the same first and last name. I've been pressing him to split a worldclubs membership with me..

This came up in another thread in the Marriott forum. It seems you can transfer points from one account to another (un-related) account. It takes some paperwork, but they swear it can be done, and even provided a link to the T&Cs.
