We have a Hilton forum for just this type of information, that relates to Hilton alone with little general significance to frequent flying or frequent stay programs.

I am fully aware of the Hilton Forum and have posted there in the past. I thought this news story is germane to The Buzz in light of the continuing discussion here about Hilton's faux pas in Mexico City. If you cannot see the relevance, don't blame me.

Hey, post wherever you want. Just about everyone else does. Why bother having any organization. Post your Hilton comments in the Starwood forum. Your American comments in the Aeromexico forum. Your Mastercard comments in the Avis forum. Why bother following a format so people who care about a particular subject can find the stuff they want, or so that people who are not interested in particular subjects can skip entire categories?

I have a great idea--let's post ALL subjects about ALL programs in the BUZZ. That way, everyone will only have to look in ONE PLACE! Great idea. Wish I had thought of it myself. But everyone else seems to have already latched onto that idea.

Bajan - you can't win. Djlawman wants a flame war, so you are going to get it no matter what you say.

As an HHonors Gold member, I have general concerns about the quality of Hilton's systems developers for a number of reasons. It seems that they have quite a number of problems, loopholes, etc. that cause quite a few undesirable results to their rewards program. On the other hand, I'm a bit disappointed that the FT community gleefully exploits every such loophole/glitch where it benefits the customer (double/triple Conquests, $0 rates, booking cheap stays in cities where you know you won't go, etc.).

This particular problem is a bit different in that there could be some innocent travelers stuck in Barbados looking at a hole in the ground where they thought their hotel would be. Since there's still time, hopefully Hilton will avert the problem by rebooking people elsewhere. However, I'm sure someone will also try and use this to scam some free nights, bonus points, or whatever.

Bajan--I'll meet you half way. I'll even agree it might be of interest to a "wider community". But, at best, I think that makes it a candidate for a General Travel posting. It really has nothing to do with a specific FF promotion or program, not even having anything to do with the Hilton HHonors program, and ought not be posted in Buzz. That's what the other forums are for, IMO. Not trying to induce a flame war, or to entertain the village idiot(s), just trying to see if we can all agree to bring some semblance of order to the postings on the board, for the benefit of all.

Flyforfree--As seems obvious, no one is board moderator, so you can stop "wondeing" [sic]. (If I was board moderator, I would presumably have some power to actually do something about posts where they don't belong, which I readily concede I do not have. Simply trying to persuade people to post in the right forums, so that Buzz is not filled up with pages of stuff not connected to FF programs and promotions.)

I personally don't believe "it belong here" (sic), and expressed my opinion to make it evident. You, of course, are welcome to express a different opinion.

It is over..there is no Hilton in Barbados..I stayed at one the night before they tore the old one down in 1998! And I am aware where this thread belongs..just wanted to set the record straight!

IMHO, there seems to be a very high level of sloppiness (some of it very intentional) throughout the travel industry. The problem is not just Hilton - they just happened to have been caught recently. United was also embarrassingly exposed recently with the $22 fares. Most of the time frequent flyers and other travelers are the victims of this sloppiness - being stuck in airports, trapped in airplanes, and forced to pay hotel and car rental charges they never expected, etc. So, although I am not condoning the actions of frequent flyers I wouldn't be so hard on those who seek to get back at the travel industry by exploiting their mistakes.

Perhaps we should all e-mail our posts to Djlawman and he can sort them all and direct them to their proper forum.

Well Beantown, if you believe yourself to be incapable of understanding the forum categories and descriptions (i.e., Buzz is "Discussion of the latest FREQUENT FLYER buzz", whereas General Travel is "Discussion of everything BUT frequent travel programs") and thereby incapable of posting in the appropriate category, I would be happy to assist you. Fortunately, I think most FlyerTalkers are intelligent enough to comprehend these categories (which were established by our hosts, not by me) and keep things organized for everyone's benefit.
