Calgary!
I will be in the Banff/Calgary/Jasper area this summer.
Is there anything I should make sure I check out while I am there? |
Just the largest Rodeo/Biggest party in Canada. Calgray shuts down for 10 days in July. July 4th weekend is crazy. A deffinate must. Largest pub crawl in North America if you are into that sort of thing.

Plan a half-day or full day walk/hike around Lake Louise.

One of my best vacations ever was a week spent hiking by day and loafing by night at the Emerald Lake Lodge in Yoho National Park. Check it out while you're there.
Oh, and do the hike to Bee Hive while at Lake Louise. Tea at the teahouse on the way up is fun. [This message has been edited by TravelWeary (edited 03-27-2001).] |

I fondly remember the month I spent in Calgary and environs during the 1988 Winter Olympics. If you are looking for an upscale meal while you're there, stop at the Banff Springs Hotel for a drink, then book a table for dinner at le Beaujolis in downtown Banff.

don't forget the amazing calgary folk festival 7/26-29. Right downtown on an island oasis. And don't let that folk word scare you, this is a very diverse and eclectic festival!

If you are going to be in Calgary during Stampede, be sure to book your hotel room well in advance.
I wound up taking a last-minute business trip to Calgary during Stampede 2000. The only available hotel was a really nasty place with no a/c (it was also the week of the year's heat wave). It was mostly German tourists when I was there, but my client contact claimed that my hotel was primarily used by hookers. |

[B]I will be in the Banff/Calgary/Jasper area this summer. Mikey, You should definately check out the Grizzly House. The atmosphere is eclectic and rustic, and fondue is the specialty. From beef to buffalo, chicken to rattlesnake, lobster to shark, cheese to chocolate, the choice is yours. Meats sizzle on the hot rock as you enjoy one of over a hundred wines. It really is a lot of fun http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif, and not that expensive... $15-30.00 Enjoy! |
