Family FF program possible?
 

I'm in a family of 4 flyers. I'm the only somewhat Frequent Flyer of the bunch with +30k miles and 20 segments a year - Is this considered a FF?

Do you think any airline would ever consider allowing a family plan? Where more than 1 person could log miles toward a single account?

My wife and kids fly on vacations - around 5k miles every other year or so. It would be wonderful if we could post all our miles into a single account.

I can use my miles to benefit family and friends. Why can't family and friends contribute to the growth of this account?

Others far more knowledgeable than I about this will chime in, but my one personal experience is with Hawaiian Airlines and Aloha Airlines.

If you have a Hawaiian Airlines Visa, you can pool miles. These miles can be used on HA's partners; or, conversely, you can credit miles on your HA partner flights to HA. You can check out their partners at www.hawwaiianair.com

Aloha Airlines also shared miles. But it is really only useful, afaik, for Aloha flights. While you can get United miles credit flying Aloha, I don't think the reverse possiblity exists.

I know this is not what you had in mind, but our CO Chase VISA account accumulates miles from both my husband's card and my card into HIS FF account.

I've seen it posted on FT that British Airways has a family program, but if your family members are only flying 5,000 miles a year chances are they're not doing trans-Atlantic, so that program might not work for you.

Korean Air do have a family-based programme option, and you'd be of course able to collect miles on every Skyteam airline. But I am not sure of the programme's specifics.

ba does have household account with many rules, so go on to ba.com and check it out. any member can use all miles and you can have up to 7 members in it.

I have a British Airways household account (good for everyone at the same address), but as mentioned it doesn't sound like that will do you much good.

United does allow you to transfer miles from one Mileage Plus account to another, but they charge you 1 cent per mile plus tax and a transfer fee. It's not a great deal. I vaguely recall CO offering OnePass members the option to transfer miles for free during special promotion periods, but I have no idea if they've offered this promotion any time recently.

I've asked before, but never got an answer ...

When BA made their Big Change in 2003, the Household Account rules went from allowing 4 members to 6 members (IIRC). When did it increase to 7, or was I misinformed?

7 members in my Household Acct.

BA household account should work ok for him flying AA (on non trans-Atlantic). He can get a BA credit card to start the account (for spouse as well), and use a Starwood card for extra bonuses. Redemption rates domestically for AA are basically the same, besides losing the ability to make changes to award bookings. What's the downside to this for pooling this size travel to one account for earning an award in a shorter period of time?

edit: Noticed that OP was AA Gold, so you'd just want to accrue other family members flown miles to BA to keep your AA status and gold bonus miles. With a couple credit card apps you should have yourself a BA award in no time.
