Need a hotel in Lima

I have to travel to Lima in early April does anyone have a good hotel suggestion? I've been told to try the Plaza. Has anyone stayed there??

Try the ORO Verde. Swiss run and a little expensive, but worth every penny. There is a local shopping mall next to it.

Lima has some rough neighborhoods, something like 40% of the population is under the poverty level. Make sure you stay in a safe area of town such as Milfores or in a few key hotels in downtown.

For a great upscale hotel try the Plaza Colon. It is located in Lima's main downtown square. I have been there and it is a fine hotel, 4* or better. For a budget hotel try the Hotel Central...located in front of the palace and it has a great view of the changing of the guards. Don't miss this very formal tradition. Miaflores and San Isidro are more affluent suburbs with lots of B&Bs and great cliff views of the ocean. Have a great trip!

I was there in December for a week and REALLY enjoyed the Marriott. I normally don't stay at US chains outside the US, but for security's sake, I did. It was wonderful. A great location in Miraflores, and across the street is a secure mall and entertainment center where you can dine, dance, drink, etc.

Plus, you could walk up the boulevard to the indian markets, etc.

I would highly recommend it. Miraflores is the best part of town to be in for dining and nightlife.

Something that might be worth your time to investigate further is that if you are a Hilton Honors member, the Double Tree El Pardo in Miraflores is an Opportunity property.

This is only one of a very few non US properties so listed by Hilton.

What it means to you is that you can stay there for only 10,000 Standard Honors points for one night or 55,000 for 6 nights.

However, if point stretchers are available for the dates of your travel, you could stay there for as low as 6,000 points/nite or 33,000 points for six nights.

This is a terrific deal and certainly Hilton's best award level worldwide!

Unfortunately, I am not familiar with the property, per se, so I can't give a recommendation, but it is a Double Tree...
and so I would think it would be OK.

Just food for thought and nothing more...

I have stayed various times at the Sheraton. Basic high rise but very central location on a main street and in a main square. Had view of the government buildings in front and mountains from my room.

The Hotel Delfin is nice with its playful dolphins you can view from the lobby bar. Another nice property is Apartohotel Las Americas. Not familiar with Doubletree but have heard nice things.

Be sure to factor in time to go to and from the airport. There seems to be no highway or direct connection between the two and taxis ran $17USD one way!!

There was a discussion about the Lima Doubletree in the Hilton forum:

Also, IIRC, they have a shuttle from the airport, and you can often get good rates
from the Hilton website...
