what does the crew eat?
Is it an urban legend (Rudi, maybe fable or myth might be more meaningful to you) that no two members of the flight crew can eat the same meal?
|
I'll let Rudi answer your question Jamiel but when I needed a meal in first class (after refusing the chicken dish) UA gave me the "captain's steak" which could have been cooked a little more (like my steaks medium well) but good anyway. (not Smith & Wollensky's: Rudi's place; or Ruth's Chris, my place!)
So I guess they get the best food. Though I have seen F-A's eating the coach meal and once offering the mustard pretzel bags (there were NO takers!) CATMAN |
Flight crew members do not eat the same meals to avoid the potential for both captian and first officer being exposed to food poisoning.
Most of the flight crew people I know usually bring along their own snacks anyway. |
I also see some flight crews eat at restaurants in the airports (everywhere from Chili's to Au Bon Pain -- great apple crossants (SP?) to even McDonald's.) I too would bring snacks with the quality of some
food on these flights!!! CATMAN |
I UNDERLINE mileageaddict's posting (Captain and First Officer are NOT ALLOWED to EAT and DRINK the same (not on board, and not before boarding!).
|
I used to work in in-flight catering some years ago. Most, if not all airlines will set aside a crew meal specifically for the flight crew. In some cases, additional first-class meals are set aside for the flight crew. To prevent the possibility of food poisoning, different meals are eaten by individual members of the flight deck crew. The captain may have steak, while the first officer has fish or chicken.
