A dozen of roses costs around $20 if you call the local merchant directly and pay by credit card. If you use FTD to make that request to that same merchant, the price becomes $60.
Bingo - but people who are so obsessed with miles and are ecstatic that they received $10 worth of miles with this order are oblivious to the extra $40 flowing out of their wallet...

I think it's just the convenience in a lot of cases, by not having to look up the local florist or assuming that FTD will do a good job of knowing the right one to give the order to - what is easier to remember than 800 Flowers or ftd.com if you are on the run? As in the case I described, my mother in law wasn't even earning miles and that wasn't her concern at all, but I posted it here because a lot of people link to them via their airline site. Also, it is undeniable that the selection at FTD or 800 Flowers, because they enjoy inventory from multiple florists and vendors, is quite large. Still, it seems that this thread has helped identify some good alternatives.

Nobody in my family orders from FTD or 1800-FLOWERS anymore. When we would order in the past, the roses would die after just one day. The flowers and all other merchandise is a terrible value for the money. "Live and learn" I guess.

You need to read the OP a bit more carefully. The OP stated that they were offered 50% off for day after deliver, but instead got a full refund. A chargeback on a refund would be, a repayment!

Yes. Just to clarify, the original delivery date (I didn't include it) was the 16th. We made our call on Friday the 24th when the in-laws spoke on the phone. Since Sat. was Christmas, they were "offering" Monday delivery which was the 28th, a full 12 days after the promised delivery date. For the Monday the 28th delivery, they were offering the 50% off. My mother in law said "no" and got full refund.
