Missing Points. Should I blame or praise?
We have had two hotel stays lately, one at the Las Vegas Hilton and the other at the Baltimore Sheraton, that didn't show up on our accounts. We couldn't find copies of our bills and when we called the hotels to check were adivsed that there were no charges.
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/confused.gif Yes we were there, but no there were no charges to our account, no matter how they checked out. Should I be happy for getting free (upgraded by the way) rooms or sad that we don't get any points or any credit for stays? |
Punki - I tried to put myself in your shoes and walk -- not quite a mile - maybe a couple of yards. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
And I thought, "This is like being hungry for something sweet and not being able to decide between a fresh, hot Krispy Kreme donut (was introduced to those two weeks ago in New Orleans!) and a Marble Slab ice cream cone. Both are wonderful!! Then I thought, "Would I call the hotels, give them my credit card number and ask for the points/miles?" -- Naaaahhhh!!!! ------------------ Don't wait for your ship to come in. Build one. |
Punki, neither you nor the hotels have any billing records of your stays!!??
Twilight Zone..... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif |
I am sorry, I do not understand th epost. Are you complaining? If you are, please at least do it on the Hilton Board so that a HIlton lurker can respond!
|
Sounds like you owe Hilton some money!

The funny thing is that in both instances they had a record of the stay and they had a record of our credit card, they just said there were simply no charges. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
And that is exactly the point, MSP2000, I don't know whether I should complain or applaud. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif I also have a third stay at the San Diego Marriott that hasn't posted but couldn't check that out today because their accounting office was closed. If this happens again, I am really going to begin to wonder what's happening. [This message has been edited by Punki (edited 02-19-2001).] |
Somebody upstairs loves you? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif
I'm sure you've considered this, but if you stayed in conjunction with an exhibition or trade fair being held there, either the organizers, or your client, may have made arrangements to handle the tab. |
little sister? do you remember the ethic's lessons we had on Sundays? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif
here is the advice of the 'reformed' swiss-materialist: for the Sheraton stay (without charges you don't win any Starwood points) ask for a 500 miles credit to your UA Mileage Plus program. |
Be happy, and follow the advise of big brother to get 500 miles retroactively from Sheraton.
If you are unhappy - check into your local Hiltons/Sheratons when you are back in your hometown. |
How do you do it, Punki? Perhaps someone from Hilton and Starwood saw your posts in the past and liked what you had to say. Perhaps they had a note put in your account: "This guest should always be comped room and incidentals." http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

If this happened on one stay, it would be interesting. Happening on two stays is on the unbelievable side. Let me prod a bit. You called both hotels, they both told you that you stayed there, but that there were no charges, and neither hotel told you why there were no charges. Is that correct?

Just wondering ... did you or someone in your party spend (not necessarily lose) a lot of money in the hotel casino in Vegas, on this or a previous trip? That's one reason they might have comped you the room.
Wouldn't explain Baltimore, though. Either way, I'd take the freebie over points worth maybe 2% of that. There's no ethical issue. You weren't trying to get away with anything. They know you were there, they have your credit card, they opted not to bill you. Be happy. If a bill shows up on your credit card later, demand the miles! |
Today I checked out the Marriott bill and found that they had indeed charged my credit card but simply had omitted my Marriott Rewards account number which explains why the stay didn't post to my account.
The only possible reason I can think that the Sheraton stay was comped is because when we originally checked in they had ugraded us a suite comrised of two rooms (even though we had only reserved one room). Only one of the rooms was ready at the time so we deposited our stuff there, spent about 1 minute admiring the beautiful view of the Inner Harbor, and went out to work, dinner, etc., returning to the hotel late at night. There was a phone message saying that the party in the other half of the suite had decided not to leave that day and that they apologized but we would only have one beautiful room of the suite. Since we did nothing but sleep, I had almost forgotten about that. Maybe they figured this was worth a comp. The Hilton is a real mystery. We never gamble and I check every ossible billing name they might have used. They checked under our name, our credit card # and even checked the right room number for that night. There were just no charges. Oh well. I have always tried to be consistently lucky. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif Maybe I should try gambling. |
