Extremely glad this was poste in Buzz. I am one of those with orphaned NW miles, which I do not fly. This will allow me to turn the 11K I have into a free ticket with some Click and Starwood transfers. Thanks fallinasleep. And thanks to everyone for figuring this one out. I didn't pay enough attention to it--got the notification about it, but since I don't try to accumulate WorldPerks, didn't pay much attention. FlyerTalk is a GREAT community.

Appreciate your post, fall. I never go to the NWA forum. Personally, until board monitors are assigned, I could live without all the self appointed ones.

Quote:
If the topic is only relevant to flyers of a specific airline, keep the post in the airline forum. But if any flyer can snare a bonus/promotion without even using the specific airline, post in The Buzz, too. Another example: The recent Delta/Amex promotion in which Delta matched miles in another program when you signed up for DL's Amex. The promo mainly appealed to DL flyers, but many others could take advantage of it. Thus, it was appropriately posted in The Buzz as well as the DL forum. |
Thank goodness this was posted in BUZZ. I'll go for the miles now, but I usually don't fly NWA much, therefore I don't read NWA's thread here much.
Good post, good miles, good times to all. |
As noted above, I agree with Family Flyer's reasoning only in part.
This promotion awards you so many points for apparently so little effort, that even if you never ever intended to fly NW and earn Worldperks again (I prefer OnePass miles), except for an exceptional circumstance, it should be posted. As noted by others, they often have a number of orphan miles in their NW account. This promotion brings them the opportunity to utilize those miles in a meaningful way. Generally, those individuals may not check the NW thread, as they would perhaps view their orphan miles as at best, just that -- orphans!! Therefore, I would hope that anyone in the future so cognizant of any such other promotion, whatever the airline, post such news in The Buzz, so that it can be of great help to, I would bet, a majority of all FTers, who have FF mileage balances scattered throughout the universe of FF programs. Remember, the "problem" of orphan miles has only increased now that you can often earn your preferred FF mileage on another carier in the wake of the ever shifting and changing alliance systems. Therefore, any promotion that can be used to "top off" one's account in a significant way, without the requirement of flying that particular airline is most welcome news. Thanks so much for the post! I am so excited to be able to sign up before the rules change. I rarely visit the Northwest forum, so I would have missed out.

IMO - it is ok to post a message in the Buzz telling about the bonus opportunity and providing a link to the NW forum. But the discussion of the details of the promotion should be done in the NW forum - not in Buzz or in the Randy Petersen forum. Lets have the discussion in one place instead of three. Again, this is my opinion in my personal capacity, and others may disagree.
There are many bonus opportunities discussed in the airline forums. Currently United forum has a discussion of a 500 mile survey. There is also a 3000 mile survey on the United forum, which is available to certain international United members. American and Continental forums list a 1000 mile bonus for getting your statements via email. Continental forum also lists a 500 mile survey. Northwest had (or has?) 1000 mile for registering your email. All of these promotions are essentially freebies, and over a period of time can result in a freebie 10,000 point Hilton bonus if the airline miles are transferred to Hilton. Should these promotions be posted or not be posted in the Buzz? Is there a certain threshhold like 5000 or 10000 miles for reporting in the Buzz? I am just posing some questions here, not mandating anything. [This message has been edited by PG (edited 02-10-2001).] |
Personally I do not see the big deal in posting a specific airline topic in 'The buzz'. I think it is a service to those FF'ers that may have some NW miles but do not keep tabs on NW regularly. They see this post in 'The Buzz' and are able to register and be Grandfathered in on the current rules before they become more restrictive. Granted, maybe the details can remain in their 'respective threads', but a flag in the more common areas I do appreciate.

I just notice Mareh's post after my previous post. A fine example of my theory.
Edited to delete HTML mess-up! [This message has been edited by jimmyjames (edited 02-10-2001).] |
I find it interesting that most of the space taken up in this thread is about why or why not it should be here.
For one, I'm VERY glad it was! Thanks Asleep. I apparently was. [This message has been edited by Pupiczech (edited 02-11-2001).] |
I think it's appropriate to post ANY bonus mile opportunities in "The Buzz." Most of us on a limited time schedule do not have the time nor the inclination to read every airline forum. Some like me rarely read any airline forum.
Airline specific strategies like "how to make Gold Medallion," or "new route schedule from MSP to DTW" should be in their respective airline forums. The people that are so rigid and have to super categorize everything remind me of those computer users that have every file in umpteen subdirectories: c:\programs_files\applications\microsoft\word_proc essing\msword\msword_2000\documents\large_document s\my_documents\my_important_documents\my_critical_ documents\year_2001\February\f eb12\organization\time_management\to_do_list Mac ------------------ Via con Dios! Thanks for posting this information on NW. I have some orphan miles and I think this would make up the difference.
One last thing...This guys post makes more sense to me, posting here than stupid posts about "Did you hear about the guy that heaved on me with my last flight", or "Babys on flights" or "My seat was constantly kicked on this flight" grow up guys...and who and the H*ll appointed you monitors? And those that scold others for there posts know who You are. this use to be a great site till all these Ego mongers got on board. PlayHard out |
