What is the expectation as to whether TWA lifetime Platinum status will be honored by AA.

Also, is 100,000 miles better under TWA's program or AA's program -- should I convert AMEX miles to TWA milesm for future conversion to AA?

I doubt that AA will honor lifetime top-tier status for TWA converts. Most likely they'll get AA Platinum for life. But then again, you never know...

In terms of using-power of 100,000 miles on TWA versus AA, there isn't a clear cut answer. AA has a MUCH better network of award destinations, award partners, and frequency of flights. But awards on TWA can be a *LOT* cheaper. The question really comes down to what do you want to get out of the specific program.

Personally, I'd be leery of moving my AmEx miles into TWA hoping for the AA buyout. It's always possible that the buy-out won't happen.

AA probably will honor the Lifetime elite but only to their Platinum...

And I agree with 2 Many Miles, the buyout might not happen, Worldcom and Sprint is a good example.

I suggest you pour the Amex points to USAIR then redeam tickets on American using USAIR points they will first take 100,000 from your American account then redeposit them from USAIR and they count towards million miles status

You said they count towards million mile status...what counts towards million mile status. I am at 800,000 total miles on AA (not sure how many flight miles).

You need 1 million miles, but they don't have to be actual flight miles (or even flight miles at all). All miles count, whether from flights, bonuses or partners.

the problem with your great USAir idea is that usair miles can only be used for actuall AA tickets. I think you're right that the miles go into your aa account, but you then have to use the aa ticket within a year?
