Lifetime first-class travel
Yesterday, on a radio station here in Atlanta, some dot-com super millionaire was being interviewed. He said that one of the things that he bought, after hitting the big time, was a lifetime FC pass for himself and one other on American Airlines for $350,000 to anywhere they fly. I thought that was pretty cheap, but it would have been a little less if he was over 40. He said that this program has been discontinued. Does any other airline have this? Just curious.

United and American used to sell these lifetime passes, but I do not believe that they exist anymore. It was a very good deal (assuming you had that type of cash!) at the time.

Sounds like a good deal for international travel but do you get miles? What about Executive Platinum or Gold for Life or something. There would have to be some more benefits tied in. And whatever happened to AAirpass (name?). It was a business account where you could purchase trips upfront to use within a calendar year.

Why would you need miles or benefits if you get first class travel for life?
With an F ticket, you stand in the F line. No hastle with upgrades. The only areas I would worry about are: a) Is the ticket a revenue ticket: If the flight is cancelled, would the airline protect me on another carrier? b) Would I be able to use the elite phone line? If I can fly 1st Class all my life, I don't care if I have only 0 miles in my account http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

With miles, you could 'purchase' duty free items or go to the cinema etc at home -could be quite something to do a mileage run on an airpass- now that has got to be the best ambition ever http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

In the early 80s, Air Florida sold a Lifetime ticket for a ridiculously low price -- maybe $5000.

Ah, unmarried posters above, wondering why would one need to earn FF miles. Glory days behind me.

At least I made AA Lifetime Gold....I still am not sure if I ever will be happy not being EXP! I am single and need the miles!

wideman: If one were an Air Florida passenger, whether they meant your lifetime or theirs, either way this doesn't seem to have been a very good deal.

Most of my miles go to tickets for friends.
I can never have enough miles. I have many friends. I fly, therefore I am. |
