Mileage Transfer Programs (Sharing or Pooling)
I did a search on this and I apologize if it's been discussed before, but I could not find what I was looking for.
I fly primarily on Delta, but have accumulated small amounts of miles on other airlines that I would like to give to friends and family. Specifically American & Continental. Do these programs allow you to share or pool miles? Which programs do? Thanks |
AA allows you to give away up to 15,000 miles from your account to someone else's account, but it's not cheap. From the AA website:
Mileage Pricing #of miles cost* 1,000-5,000 $50.00 6,000-10,000 $100.00 11,000-15,000 $150.00 |

Continental will allow you purchase a reward ticket for someone other than the account owner. The other thing I have done is gone to their website under Home > Frequent Flyer Program > Use Miles > Non-travel Rewards > Miles for Merchandise. You can buy some interesting items for 100 miles plus a charge if you don't have enough for a reward ticket. I've bought some great stuff for some of my clients and family members. Why not use your miles to upgrade someone? |
Miles Transfer on Death of Member
This may be kind of a weird question, but when someone dies and has a mileage balance, can those miles be transferred?

The April 2004 Inside Flyer had a cover story on the subject. |
Hotel programs often allow pooling/transfer.
Hilton used to open up family accounts but I believe they have suspended this practice ... many lucky HHonors members are grandfathered in IIRC. Starwood allows transfer between accounts with the same address. Priority Club allows transfer between any two accounts, but for a fee ($5 per 1000 pts). |
